Tech giant Hitachi just dropped a thrilling new campaign Wednesday that plays like an action movie trailer.
Led by creative agency Mamapöol and directed by Emmy-nominated director Cameron Harris (of Deadpool ads fame), a main spot titled "Action For a Sustainable Future" showcases the vast array of Hitachi's sustainability efforts from its 114 years of history.
Flipping classic action movie conventions on their head, the 2.5-minute long spot blurs the line between fiction and reality, featuring a buff bald man in a black tank top who gets his extreme ideas turned down by a woman who plays the director.
Harris called Hitachi's commitment to sustainability much cooler than what any 90s action hero could do.
Meet a seasoned action hero who's discovered that the biggest challenge of our time — building a sustainable future — can't be achieved alone.

Mamapöol Co-Founder and Creative Partner Jason Mendes highlighted the agency's different approach to the campaign, saying it needed to be more than just a display of Hitachi products and partnerships.
"Therefore, our creative digital content needed to be as interesting as the content we were interrupting or our audience was searching for," he said in a statement.
The campaign launched earlier this week across Hitachi's social media channels.
Soon, it will run across paid media in Italy, the U.K., and the U.S.
Many of the most memorable commercials have utilized excellent brand storytelling, showcasing captivating cinematography and sound design to emotionally connect and engage with the audience to maximize awareness and recognition.
Hitachi takes it a step further by making its spot more interesting and fun, leveraging an action movie trailer to get its message across that action is what's needed (and what it's doing) to save the environment.
Lights, Camera, Action
The spot begins with a loud action movie foghorn sound effect as the camera zooms in on a man in a dense jungle.
As the actor gets into character, he's quickly interrupted by the director, who, with a bit of meta humor, reminds him that they're filming an ad for Hitachi.
A helicopter, train, and "server room" infiltration scenes, among others, all end in the same anti-climactic fashion as the director enlightens the actor about Hitachi's sustainability efforts, including:
- Wind farms that efficiently connect to millions of homes
- Battery-powered hybrid trains that reduce carbon emissions
- Generative AI and cloud storage with 96% less CO2 emissions
- Batteries for electric school buses
- Data delivery with the Las Vegas Sphere
- A life-saving vest that protects at-risk cardiac patients

We then see the actor having a mild existential crisis, unsure of whether the action movie is meant for him.
"Are you sure this is my kind of action movie?" he asks.
"It's everyone's. Only by taking action together can we achieve a sustainable future," the director replies.
The film dramatically ends as they look into a grand view of the sun and earth, walking away together to reveal the CTA: "Together we can achieve a sustainable future."
Hitachi clearly showcases its brand values in the short film, prioritizing sustainability while innovating its products.
Meanwhile, tech giant Apple recently created an emotional and memorable spot highlighting its commitment to accessibility and inclusivity with tech designed for the differently abled.
