Visionary UI/UX designer Sean Doyce is the latest addition to theDesignRush Design Awards jury lineup.
With over 15 years of experience in UI/UX design and a track record of leading design at six startups, Sean’s inclusion in the jury brings a wealth of unique expertise and passion for innovation.
Who Is Sean Doyce?
Sean Doyce is the Chief Experience Officer (CXO) at Calibrate Software. His commitment to challenging industry norms and delivering user-centric, innovative designs has made him a respected figure in the UI/UX design world.
Sean’s journey into the world of design is anything but conventional. At just 16 years old, he dove headfirst into the tech startup scene, hiring a software development company to bring his ideas to life.
However, as many startup stories go, funding ran dry before the project could reach its full potential.
Rather than giving up, Sean decided to take matters into his own hands and tackle the design himself — a decision that would shape his future career.
While the challenge proved significant, it also ignited a passion that led him to work towards earning a degree in UX and launch his second startup. Sean’s self-taught background has given his work a unique edge.
"Now, here's the kicker — I'm mostly self-taught and never officially joined a 'design' team. Because of that, I think my work has this unique vibe. I like to question those design 'trends' and throw in some innovation where things have gotten a bit too 'standard' in the industry," he shares.
A Visionary in Design Excellence
Sean tells us that he’s excited about his new role as a DesignRush Best Design Awards jury member.
For him, this position is not just about evaluating designs but also about immersing himself in cutting-edge trends and learning from industry peers.
"It’s an opportunity to shape the narrative of design excellence and recognize the incredible talent within the field," he says.
"The design should not only be visually appealing but also prioritize user needs and interactions, ensuring a smooth and intuitive experience," he adds.

One design that recently caught Sean’s attention was the website "The Boat" by SBS Australia.
"What's impressive is that these complexities are so smoothly woven into the user experience that they're almost invisible to the end user. It's a brilliant embodiment of the saying, 'Good design is obvious, great design is transparent,'" he tells DesignRush.
Sean acknowledges the myriad of challenges today’s designers face, from balancing aesthetics with functionality to staying current with rapidly evolving technology.
However, he believes that these hurdles also present opportunities for innovation and growth within the design industry.
"Be bold, innovative, and user-focused. Craft designs that not only captivate visually but also offer seamless and delightful user experiences.
Pay attention to the details, stay on top of industry trends, and, most importantly, let your creativity shine through. Don't be afraid to push boundaries and think outside the box," he advises.
