Elon Musk Rebrands Twitter to ‘X’

Twitter’s owner and current Chief Technology Officer Elon Musk is officially rebranding the platform to “X,” marking its first major change in 17 years.  

This morning, Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino shared an image of the new logo in a tweet, which Musk has now made his display picture.

“It’s an exceptionally rare thing – in life or in business – that you get a second chance to make another big impression,” she wrote.  

“Twitter made one massive impression and changed the way we communicate. Now, X will go further, transforming the global town square.” 

According to Yaccarino, the newly branded app will be the “future state of unlimited interactivity” with a focus on audio, video, messaging, payments, and banking. X will also be powered by AI and will connect users in ways “we’re just beginning to imagine.”  

The announcement comes after a series of developments that took place over the weekend, starting with Musk’s Twitter poll asking users for their preferred default background color for the app. 

Following this, the multibillionaire said that the company will soon “bid adieu to the twitter brand” and that if a “good enough X logo” was posted that night, the company will make the changes go live the following day.

Shortly after, the CTO announced the new website for the app, x.com, which already redirects users to twitter.com when visited.  

Musk’s plans to change Twitter into X has been a long time coming.  

Since his takeover last October, the multibillionaire has frequently teased the idea of the rebrand and transforming the text-based social media app into an “everything app.” 

When he had announced Yaccarino as the social media platform’s new CEO last May, Musk shared his excitement in working with her to transform the app into “X.”

Additionally, the company has been hard at work in adding features that make it more than just a text-based app, allowing users to download videos, share videos up to two hours long, and soon post long-form articles with mixed media.

Recently, Twitter also launched a program that gives top-performing and verified creators a cut of the company’s ad revenue, as well as a new feature that allows verified businesses to post job listings on the app.
