Etsy is making human creativity a selling point as AI-generated content and automated shopping become more common.
Its new holiday campaign, created with Orchard Creative, positions the people behind handmade gifts as the marketplace's strongest differentiator.
The work follows a May launch that Orchard credits with a 30% lift in Etsy's ad awareness.
The 60-second film, "Workshops," opens with a machine producing identical boxes before switching to the workshops of a trainmaker, ceramicist, and dollmaker.

Directed by Autumn de Wilde, the spot ends with a girl unwrapping a doll modeled after her, complete with her glasses and dress.
The campaign extends Etsy's "Celebrate Being Human" platform, launched in May 2026, into the holiday shopping season.
"Our sellers are what make Etsy special," said Daniel "Monty" Montalto, Etsy's VP of brand marketing.
"They bring imagination and craft to everything they make, so a gift from Etsy doesn't look like it came from a warehouse."
Etsy has been making the same handmade case since its March rebrand with SYLVAIN, which gave the wordmark softer curves and slightly uneven proportions.
Lining up a visual identity and campaigns behind its handmade idea lets every ad double as brand building.
The distinction gives Etsy a timely argument as shoppers encounter more AI recommendations and similar online products.
It also gives the marketplace a way to compete on the personal meaning behind a purchase.
Real Sellers Give the Holiday Film Its Texture
The production reinforces the campaign's argument through the people and objects featured on screen.
Etsy cast real artisans and craftspeople, used products from actual sellers, and filled the workshops with pieces custom-made for the film.
The VFX team then recreated the stitches digitally for the final spot.
Orchard ECD Heather Larimer credits the people behind the gifts, saying, "the actual magic comes from human creativity, care, and connection."
"We made this tale to showcase Etsy as its own version of the North Pole," she added.
The production gives this idea a physical form, since Etsy's own sellers helped make the ad.
A second spot, "Ornaments," arrives Nov. 6.
It features personalized keepsakes, including a father's poolside cannonball, a dog sitting with Santa, and a burnt holiday ham.
Agencies that write a platform loose enough to hold several stories can fill a whole year from one brand strategy.
Etsy's May Launch Sets the Holiday Benchmark
Etsy's U.S. ad awareness climbed from 13% to 17% in the two weeks after "Celebrate Being Human" launched in May, according to YouGov BrandIndex.
Orchard Creative reports this four-point gain as a 30% lift, setting the bar that "Workshops" now has to clear.
Women, who make up 68% of Etsy's U.S. customers, drove most of the increase.
More than eight in 10 U.S. Etsy customers also worry about technology's impact on society, the same fear the machine in "Workshops" plays on.
These findings give Orchard a core audience and a ready-made tension to write its holiday films for.

The campaign offers three lessons for agencies working with established brand platforms.
- Awareness gains need context. Agencies should report percentage-point changes alongside relative lifts to show the actual scale of results.
- Audience splits expose opportunities. Teams should compare campaign performance by customer segment to identify gaps in reach and improve targeting.
- Cultural relevance needs evidence. Marketers should test consumer concerns against actual shopping behavior to connect brand messaging to demand.
The May results give Etsy a useful starting point for its holiday campaign, but the new creative will need its own performance measurement.
Our Take: How Can Agencies Keep a Brand Platform Fresh?
Etsy has now run "Celebrate Being Human" through a summer anthem and two holiday films in about six months.
We'd tell any agency in Orchard's seat to keep a platform fresh by putting a different kind of person at the center of each new spot.
The agency already did this once, since the May anthem followed buyers, and "Workshops" puts Etsy's makers on screen.
"Ornaments" heads back to buyers and their family keepsakes, which risks ending on the same warm payoff as the May film.
Holiday accounts can turn over fast, as Sephora's move to GUT New York this year after three seasons with TBWA\Chiat\Day LA shows.
Agencies that want to keep a holiday account should pitch next year's cast alongside this year's spot, because the client is buying how long the idea can run.
Levi's is also making the case for human craft this season, putting four hours of work into every second of its claymation ad.
