Tesla has recently disclosed its expenditure of $200,000 on X advertising in 2023 through February 2024, marking a significant departure from its historically minimal marketing approach.
According to the company's letter to shareholders released via proxy statement, the advertising spend is part of the company's broader "commercial, consulting, and support agreements."
Notably, Tesla ads have been spotted across Google Search and YouTube as early as November 2023.

Last month, the company also ran ads on Facebook, relaunched its Facebook Page, and put out sponsored ads, even on Cars.com.

Why Did Tesla Begin Advertising?
Tesla's newfound investment in advertising comes in response to mounting pressure from shareholders urging CEO Elon Musk to bolster sales through marketing efforts.
It also comes at a time when demand for electric vehicles (EVs) has plateaued, and competition has intensified.
Previously, the company maintained a firm stance against traditional advertising, relying only on word of mouth and strong demand.

The disclosure also highlights the intricate financial relationships between Tesla and other ventures under Musk's supervision.
Last year, the EV giant paid X an estimated $50,000 and $30,000 through February 2024 for "commercial, consulting, and support agreements."
In the same vein, the social media platform paid Tesla $1 million in 2023 and $20,000 until February 2024.
Tesla's advertising push on X comes amid challenges for the platform, with reports indicating that some major advertisers have refrained from returning.
In November 2023, industry giants, such as IBM, Apple, and Disney, opted out of advertising on the platform, with experts suspecting losses of over $75 million in ad revenue.
