Twitter Increases Character Limit for Long-Form Tweets from 10,000 to 25,000

Twitter is increasing the character limit for long-form tweets, also known as “NoteTweets,” from 10,000 to 25,000 characters. 

The new feature was announced through a tweet by Prachi Poddar, who works for Twitter’s core services.

A Twitter user also asked Poddar for app updates regarding inline text spoilers, code, and quote blocks. Twitter engineer Eric Farraro responded by saying Twitter is also currently working on some of these features.  

Last February, the social media platform introduced long-form tweets to subscribers of Twitter Blue, allowing them up to 4,000 characters per tweet. In April, the company bumped the number up to 10,000 characters per tweet, along with bold and italic formatting options.  

While Twitter has been ramping up its text features, ex-CEO Elon Musk has hinted at plans to shift into prioritizing video.  

One Twitter user wrote: “We really need a Twitter video app for Smart TVs. I’m not watching an hour-long video on Twitter.” 

Musk replied to his tweet, noting that “it’s coming.” 

The news also follows the launch of new video-related features, such as the ability to download videos straight from Twitter and add community notes to tweets containing either images or videos.  

These efforts seem to align with Musk’s plans to transform Twitter into “X” or “the everything app.” However, if or when the company will make the full transition remains unclear.
