While app development companies rely on skilled professionals and robust marketing tools to attract and retain users, it takes just one poor experience to frustrate them, leading to uninstalls.
But that's not all. Crashes, freezes, and slow loading times can severely affect a brand's reputation.
In an interview with DesignRush, D-Kode Tech founder and CEO Daniel Kodam discusses how to:
- Win users with effective UX/UI
- Ensure optimal app performance
- Avoid brand damage and restore reputation
Who Is Daniel Kodam?
With over 30 years of IT experience, Daniel leverages his expertise in various programming languages to enhance design and marketing strategies at D-Kode. His mission is to guide clients from micro-businesses to mega-corporations, expertly managing projects of all sizes while simplifying interactions for even the most tech-averse clients.
According to an outsystems survey involving 1,200 IT professionals, cloud-native, low code, and AI-assisted development are the three trends driving the state of modern app development.
Daniel shares how he sees these shaping the skill sets required for future developers.
“The most successful developers of the future will be developers who are agile in terms of their ability to learn and implement the most cutting-edge technologies and modalities while having a solid background in the foundations of best practices for app development.
The skills that will never go out of fashion are a good design eye and an excellent ability to find the most elegant solution to development problems. However, how you implement them is modernizing.”
He also highlights that adapting to new requirements and mastering skills in AI assistance, low code, and cloud-native programming will be crucial for developers in the future.
But how can other agencies effectively integrate these trends? Daniel emphasizes that it all comes down to mobile app testing and training.
“By implementing newer techniques through training and testing, the programmers are growing their knowledge base while solving the problems that companies are having with apps,” he adds.
And this is why Daniel says he always encourages his programmers to "think outside the box" as there are multiple solutions to any problem.
He also believes in hiring team members who proactively educate themselves on cutting-edge technologies and are personally motivated to learn the latest modalities.
How to Balance Low-Code and Traditional Techniques
With the rise of low-code platforms, some argue that traditional app development is becoming obsolete.
So, I asked Daniel if he agrees that low-code solutions can match the customization and flexibility of traditional development, or if there are scenarios where traditional methods are irreplaceable.
“At D-Kode, we believe that while low-code platforms offer speed, accessibility, and cost-effectiveness for simpler apps, traditional development remains vital for highly customized, complex, or performance-critical applications.
The best approach often combines both for faster development with the flexibility of traditional coding when needed. With that said, some of our early testing of AI-assisted coding seems to be bridging some of these issues but they are still requiring additional work that is outweighing the benefits,” Daniel explains.

With user preferences rapidly changing, we also discussed the key elements organizations should consider for delivering intuitive brand experiences in mobile apps.
“We believe that winning over users in 2024 demands the same things as 15 years ago; you must create mobile apps that have easy user experiences and effective user interfaces. UX/UI is the backbone of a strong application.
We start with deep user research to understand the target market’s evolving preferences.
Our team designs apps for intuitive navigation and we leverage personalization to deliver a relevant and user-friendly experience. Our developers embrace touch interactions, voice UI, and more as we gather continuous feedback to keep every app feeling fresh and user-friendly.”
I agree 100% with Daniel that UX design is key to delivering intuitive brand experiences. And when it comes to satisfying users, speed plays a key role as they expect an app to load in a couple of seconds.
“We achieve this by optimizing code, compressing images, and using lazy loading. But it’s important not to sacrifice the richness of content or experience.
Progressive loading, placeholders, and prioritizing critical content ensure a speedy experience that still impresses users and keeps them coming back,” he details.
How to Maintain and Optimize App Performance
Discussing the biggest challenges app development agencies face, we touched on monitoring app performance.
Daniel explains that keeping apps running flawlessly is a constant battle, requiring both real-time monitoring and proactive strategies.
D-Kode uses App Performance Monitoring (APM) tools to provide live data on response times, crashes, and resource usage, identifying performance bottlenecks as they occur.
Additionally, setting clear performance benchmarks helps them spot potential issues before they affect users and prompt uninstalls.

Daniel also says that by combining crash reporting tools and user behavior analysis, the company can ensure optimal app performance and keep users happy with a consistently smooth experience.
“As user traffic surges, app performance can't be allowed to falter. Agencies can prepare for this by building a scalable architecture, optimizing databases, and utilizing CDNs for improved content delivery.
Load balancers ensure smooth traffic distribution, while microservices architecture allows for independent scaling of specific app features. This multi-pronged approach keeps apps running smoothly even as user traffic increases.”
Five Tips for Preventing Damage to Brand Reputation
Damaging a brand’s reputation is one of the biggest consequences of poor app performance, leading to negative reviews and a decline in trust.
Daniel shares the following tips on how brands can avoid these scenarios:
- Incorporate performance optimization during development
- Conduct rigorous user acceptance testing
- Monitor app health regularly
- Set clear performance benchmarks
- Implement proactive alerts to address issues early
“If there are issues that arise, fostering open communication and transparency with users throughout the resolution process helps engender user trust and minimize any reputational damage,” he concludes.
Daniel adds that brands should also regularly conduct performance audits and updates on their apps that will "act like preventive maintenance."
But when damage has already been done, how can brands regain user loyalty and restore their reputation?
Daniel says this requires a multi-pronged approach:
- Publicly acknowledge the problems, apologize, and be transparent about the solutions
- Deliver a demonstrably improved app and offer incentives for users to return
- Actively seek user feedback and address lingering issues to rebuild a positive relationship
“This is only one part of the process, as trust takes time and consistent effort,” he cautions.
Creating an app is just the beginning, maintaining and optimizing its performance — especially as user traffic increases — is pivotal to its long-term success.
