OpenAI has just launched a slate of major features in line with its "12 Days of OpenAI" event, including a premium subscription model and the text-to-video AI model Sora.
Honoring the anniversary of ChatGPT's 2022 launch, the event began with the full release of o1, a model that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman dubbed "the smartest in the world."
Boasting enhanced reasoning capabilities, the next-gen AI program is far more powerful than previous versions, which marks the beginning of a new era for the company.
To use the advanced AI, users need to upgrade to the existing ChatGPT Plus or the all-new ChatGPT Pro: a $200 monthly plan that gives users unlimited access to the groundbreaking tech, as well as o1-mini, GPT-4o, and Advanced Voice.
According to OpenAI, o1 exceeds all previous models with its faster response times and improved coding and math capabilities.
Additionally, the company announced a ChatGPT Pro Grant Program that will begin by awarding 10 medical researchers at top institutions access to ChatGPT Pro before expanding to other fields.
OpenAI states that the company's main goal is to create a safer and better world for all of humanity.
With the constant release of upgraded tech, the company continues its brand purpose of giving businesses and individuals access to better AI software.
AI tech is increasingly pervading the modern world, and although people seem to be divided when it comes to its use in the creative space, it can't be denied that it provides real utility in enhancing a business' efficiency and productivity.

Finally, the World Meets Sora
Meanwhile, one of OpenAI's most highly anticipated products has finally made its public debut after months of teasing and development updates.
Available now on a dedicated website, Sora gives ChatGPT Plus users 1,000 credits per month, which they can use to generate up to 50 priority five-second videos at 720p.
Pro subscribers, on the other hand, can generate an unlimited number of videos and 500 priority videos at 1080p, which will have a maximum duration of 20 seconds.
In a livestream announcement, OpenAI debuted some of the model's latest additions, including an explore page for the thousands of videos generated by other users.
Additionally, the company added that every video generated with Sora follows strict guidelines, preventing users from misusing the tool to create explicit content.
During the stream, Sora Product Lead Rohan Sahai highlighted the fine balance between preventative measures and allowing creative freedom, encouraging users to continue to provide useful feedback:
"We might not get it perfect on day one. We’re starting a little conservative, and so if our moderation doesn't quite get it right, just give us that feedback."
At the time of writing, less than 24 hours after the model's release, thousands of users have already begun experimenting with Sora to produce stunning videos in high definition.

To ensure the safe use of the tool, OpenAI has barred most users from depicting people in their creations, and blocked nudity, child sexual abuse material, and deepfakes.
Due to an overwhelming demand, OpenAI has also temporarily disabled visitors from creating new accounts.
Sora is currently available in the U.S. and several other countries, with launches in Europe and the U.K. to come in the near future.
OpenAI has had a massive year. Back in May, the company signed licensing agreements with Vox Media and The Atlantic to expand its content library.
