Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg has revealed that the company is currently testing the Reels feature on its new Quest VR headset.
Zuckerberg shared a post on Meta’s broadcast channel showing what viewing a Reel would look like when seen in VR and augmented reality.
It seems that viewing Reels through the Meta Quest 3 headset will be like scrolling through them on your phone. Users will be able to browse through Reels on a window set against their virtual background of choice.
It is currently unclear whether Meta is already introducing the Instagram app to Quest or if it will be available for user testing independently of the social media app, before its official release.
However, the news of Reels being tested for Quest does hint at Meta beginning to integrate its apps and systems into one ecosystem for the VR headset.
This ties into remarks Zuckerberg has made about the release of both Meta’s Quest 3 device and Apple’s Vision Pro, priced at an unexpected $3,499.
"Our vision for the metaverse and presence is fundamentally social. It's about people interacting in new ways and feeling closer in new ways,” he said.
