Google TV may soon become a fan favorite among streaming platforms. The smart TV operating system announced a major update to its content library, including 800 free TV channels.
The update sees Google officially branding itself with “more free TV channels in one place than any other smart TV platform.” Thanks to Google TV’s integration with Tubi, Plex, Pluto TV and Haystack News, a new Live tab option has been implemented to the platform with content at no additional charge.
From news channels like NBC, ABC and CBS to entertainment channels such as Stories by AMC and WB TV Watchlist, the options are (literally) endless. Tuning into selective channels from around the world also allows users to access programming in over 10 languages, including Spanish, Japanese and Hindi.
“From breaking news to blockbuster movies and everything in between, there's something for everyone. And with no subscriptions or fees, it's never been easier to jump in and start watching,” states the company in an official blog post.
Additionally, Google TV’s update comes with a way to easily browse the new content, dividing channels by topic and genre with categories like “News and Opinion” and “Movies.” All live channels users are subscribed to can also now be categorized under one tab for faster access.
Google TV’s update aims to tackle the increase of streaming service options and the conflict audiences may have when choosing what to watch and where to find it, offering users a variety of choices in one place and in an easily accessible way.
Currently available only in the US, the Live tab can be accessed by all Google TV devices, including Chromecast with Google TV and televisions with Google TV built-in from Sony, TCL, Philips and Hisense.
