Butterfinger is giving its Halloween sponsorship with Heidi Klum more places to live.
The candy brand returns as Title Sponsor of Klum’s Halloween celebration for a third consecutive year, coinciding with the event’s 25th anniversary.
In previous years, it brought Butterfinger into the festivities through branded party experiences and sweet concoctions made by Klum herself.
The partnership now stretches across an October dessert collaboration, live sampling, and the annual New York City party.
Butterfinger VP of Marketing Yann Bastien believes the two brands already share a natural connection to Halloween’s more playful side.
"Halloween and Butterfinger are a perfect match, bringing together excitement, creativity and just the right amount of mischief," Bastien said.
Klum also sees the sponsorship as part of the event’s ability to create moments that stick with audiences beyond the costumes themselves.
"I love creating moments that people talk about long after Halloween night is over," Klum said.
Like previous iterations of the partnership, Butterfinger's name isn't just slapped on this year's event.
It continues to get associated with one of Halloween’s most iconic parties and gives fans tangible ways to encounter the partnership themselves.
The Party Leaves Manhattan
The most immediate activation is the return of the Butterfinger-tini and immersive Butterfinger sampling at Klum’s Halloween party.
The partnership then moves into food.
From October 1 through 31, Crazy Pizza’s SoHo location will serve Klum’s "Halloween Butterfinger Pizza," a limited-time dessert collaboration at the restaurant where she is a partner.
The strategy fits how Halloween shopping and celebration have become whole-month occasions.
The National Retail Federation shared that 74% of consumers plan to celebrate and 49% are beginning their Halloween shopping in September or earlier.
Butterfinger capitalizes on that calendar by giving consumers multiple entry points throughout the weeks leading up to the big day.
The final activation arrives on October 31, when the brand will distribute free product samples during Manhattan’s Village Halloween Parade beginning at 7:00 PM.
How Butterfinger Maximizes the Sponsorship
There is a practical lesson in Butterfinger’s strategy for brands investing in celebrity marketing.
A sponsorship increases in value when the audience can experience it in different contexts.
Three lessons stand out for marketers:
- Give the partnership something people can consume: The Butterfinger Pizza creates a concrete product experience that can generate its own conversation.
- Build several moments around one seasonal idea: The party, restaurant collaboration, and parade sampling give consumers multiple points of contact to the campaign across October.
- Use the celebrity relationship as a doorway: Klum provides attention and credibility, while Butterfinger supplies experiences that give audiences a reason to engage with the partnership.
The result is a sponsorship that gives the brand more opportunities to remain relevant throughout the season.
Our Take: Can a Sponsorship Outlive the Party?
We think the interesting move here is taking something inherently exclusive and making pieces of it accessible to everyone else.
Most people will never attend Heidi Klum’s Halloween party, but those residing in NYC can order the pizza, encounter Butterfinger on the parade route, or try the branded cocktail.
And if they couldn't, they'll find it on social media and try to make their own creations with the snack.
This changes the economics of the sponsorship in a small but meaningful way.
For a candy brand, it all feels like a smarter use of Halloween real estate than simply owning the backdrop.
