How AI Changes the Game for Google’s New Pixel 8

Google has finally dropped the much-awaited latest iteration of its Pixel smartphone series, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. 

Powered by the all-new Google Tensor G3 chip, the next line of Pixels will get seven years of software updates that include Android OS and security upgrades.

While the two phones boast significant changes from their predecessors such as standard camera and display improvements, what stands out is its new set of AI-powered features that are firsts for any Google smartphone.

Top 3 New AI Camera Features on Pixel 8

First revealed during the Google I/O event that took place in May, Magic Editor gives users the ability to reposition, resize, or delete subjects within a photo and alter background colors with a few taps.

Unlike the iOS 16's cut-and-paste feature, what makes the Magic Editor particularly impressive is the way you can erase unwanted shadows from the background of a subject you moved within the photo, making it seamless and all the more realistic.

Meanwhile, Best Take is another feature that will come in handy for group photos. As its name suggests, the feature utilizes AI to blend images from a series of pictures the user took to create one where everyone looks their best. 

Lastly, Audio Magic Eraser reduces unwanted background noise from videos by using advanced machine learning models to arrange sounds into layers that users can control.

It's a first-of-its-kind feature that will come in handy for camping trips, nights out, and public spaces with loud background noises. 

Users Mostly React Positively to Pixel 8

American YouTuber Marques Brownlee got his hands on the Pixel 8 early, saying that it has "set the bar" for smartphones, and will still be up-to-date even seven years from now.

Pre-orders for Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro have started at $699 and $999, respectively, with devices available at Google's retail partners starting October 12.
