X Now Allows Video Downloads for Verified Users

Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, is now allowing verified users to download videos for offline viewing as part of its latest update.  

Additionally, the Musk-owned app will allow users to remix videos posted on the platform to create their own content. 

According to an updated X Help Center article, only videos posted after July 25 may be downloaded. The feature will also have an age limit, allowing only users 18 years old and above to download videos. 

If users don’t want the videos they post to be downloaded, they can also opt to disable the “Allow video to be downloaded” option while composing a tweet.  

The download feature was first teased by Twitter Senior Product Designer Andrea Conway in a tweet last May, where she showcased a new tab that contained the option to add captions, change playback speed, as well as share and download a video.  

Apart from beefing up the platform’s paid subscription service, the latest mobile app development appears to feed into Musk’s plan to turn X into an “everything app” with a focus on audio, video, messaging, payments, and banking.  

“For years, fans and critics alike have pushed Twitter to dream bigger, to innovate faster, and to fulfill our great potential. X will do that and more,” X CEO Linda Yaccarino shared in a tweet. “We’ve already started to see X take shape over the past eight months through our rapid feature launches, but we’re just getting started.”
