Walmart takes a bold step into the virtual realm, allowing Roblox users to order physical products for direct delivery.
The groundbreaking collaboration between the retail giant and the immersive online platform introduces users to a new e-commerce experience that seamlessly integrates real-world products into the virtual space through Walmart Discovered.
Launched last year, Walmart Discovered offers Roblox users an easier way to discover trending virtual items and experiences through a nomination system that spotlights over 300 community creators.
And now, Walmart Discovered allows users to browse and purchase physical goods directly within Roblox, with the convenience of having the items shipped to their doorsteps.
Users can test virtual items on their avatars before accessing an in-game window mimicking Walmart's website that allows them to browse more products.
Justin Breton, director of brand experiences and strategic partnerships at Walmart, explained more in detail about the checkout process:
“There is a traditional sort of checkout flow where you put your name, your address, and your credit card information, and that’s all powered by a Walmart API that handles all of the information super securely — it’s very safe.”
“And once you hit checkout, you’ll get your confirmation email from Walmart. All of that is handled by us on the back end, the user will then get their item in the mail, but the virtual twin is granted immediately back on Roblox,” Breton added.
This new feature is available only for U.S. users at least 13 years old.
Collaborating with Roblox Creators
May will be a pilot test to estimate how willing users are to shop for real products on Roblox, with Walmart not sharing sales profits with the gaming platform during this period.
The pilot test marks the first of many that Roblox has planned with different brands and partners.
“Shopping for virtual items is already an important element of how people engage and express themselves on Roblox daily, so our goal is to gather feedback, test the technology, and learn what resonates with Gen Z customers the most when it comes to shopping for physical items,” Roblox VP of Economy Enrico D’Angelo said.

Walmart has also partnered with three prominent Roblox creators – Sarabxlla, MD17_RBLX, and Junozy – to design virtual versions of real products sold on Walmart, which include a festival hobo bag by No Boundaries, a tumbler by TAL, and wireless headphones by Onn, to promote the new feature.
This strategic move fosters a vibrant ecosystem of creators and users, as well as sets the stage for a new era of virtual shopping experiences that blur the lines between the digital and physical worlds.
“Our vision for shopping as part of the Roblox economy: it will ultimately model the physical world, with the ability to go above and beyond by overcoming physical limitations and offering added value to shop on the platform,” D’Angelo shared.
