Twitter Changes Interface, Removes “Direct Message” Button

Social media platform Twitter made changes to its interface by removing the direct message (DM) option in its android and iOS mobile apps, as an effort to make it simpler and more user-friendly.  

Before the change, the DM button was located at the top navigation bar of the mobile app, leaving users confused once the change was made. 

Despite this, the DM function is still accessible to users. To send a DM, users can tap on a profile and select “Message,” or go to the “Messages” tab located on the bottom navigation bar.  

The removal of the DM button is just one of the many changes Twitter implemented to make the platform more intuitive with smooth navigation.  

Since Elon Musk’s takeover, the app has introduced a significant number of new features. The “view count” shows a user how much engagement their tweet was able to garner in a tab located beside replies, retweets and likes.  

Users can now also bookmark tweets – a feature similar to liking a tweet, except bookmarked tweets cannot be seen by other users.  

In the future, Musk also plans to introduce long-form tweets, zero ads, as well as the option to edit tweets.
