OpenAI made its Super Bowl debut with a black-and-white commercial positioning artificial intelligence as humanity's next great technological advancement.
The 60-second dot-based animation highlights ChatGPT's real-world applications, such as business planning and language tutoring, presenting AI as a practical tool rather than an abstract concept.
This campaign also serves as a launchpad for OpenAI's new branding, which embraces a minimalist aesthetic and reserves its signature blossom logo for research initiatives.
OpenAI first showed signs of Big Game activity with a series of social media posts about the match between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs.

In a statement, OpenAI CMO Kate Rouch emphasized the goal of making AI accessible to a broad audience:
"We want the message to feel relevant to the audience that is watching the Super Bowl, which includes tens of millions of people who have no familiarity with AI."
Although OpenAI leveraged its text-to-video AI system, Sora, during early concept development, the final animation was crafted entirely by human artists.
Rouch also addressed concerns about AI-generated content diluting the value of human artistry, calling AI "an extension of human creativity."
A New Age of Intelligence
The one-minute spot uses a simple dot motif to illustrate a short recap of human history.
Beginning with fire and the wheel, the ad goes on a journey through time to depict some of humanity's most important advancements.
From agriculture and electricity to space travel and computing, the spot eventually brings the audience into "The Intelligence Age," touting OpenAI's ChatGPT as a tool for learning and knowledge.
It ends with the idea that "all progress has a starting point," referring to the language model's ability to help users in all aspects of daily life.

OpenAI's Super Bowl commercial clearly shows the company's brand values and its belief that technology should empower creativity and build on the achievements of the past.
By linking AI to key human milestones, the ad highlights the natural evolution of technology and OpenAI's commitment to making advanced tools that are both accessible and impactful in everyday life.
In this way, OpenAI is strategically appealing to businesses and creators by reinforcing AI’s role as a collaborative force rather than a replacement, fostering trust and long-term adoption.
To extend the impact of its Super Bowl debut, OpenAI is opening its Forum to the public this week, hosting a behind-the-scenes discussion about the ad's creation.
The company will stream a roundtable featuring Rouch and Accenture Song/droga5 CEO David Droga, offering insights into the campaign's creative process and AI's role in shaping the future.
The initiative aims to deepen engagement by giving viewers a closer look at the decisions behind the ad while reinforcing OpenAI's vision of AI as a tool that enhances human potential.
Last month, OpenAI introduced its first AI Agent designed to handle tasks, greatly improving productivity.
