Microsoft just launched a new category of personal computers with advanced AI features, integrating cutting-edge technology across its product lineup.
"Copilot+" was announced by Chief Executive Satya Nadella at an event held at Microsoft’s Redmond, Washington campus.
These AI-enabled PCs are designed to handle more artificial intelligence tasks locally without relying heavily on cloud data centers.

Several companies including Acer and Asustek will manufacture the PCs, which will begin shipping on June 18 with a starting price point of $1,000.
Microsoft aims for new computers to represent around one-fifth of all PCs sold, despite an overall market downturn.
Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft's head of consumer marketing, highlighted the expected demand for these AI PCs, predicting that 50 million units will be sold over the next year.
He emphasized that faster, locally run AI assistants will provide a compelling reason for consumers to upgrade their PCs.
A new generation of Surface Pro tablets and Surface Laptops were also introduced at the event, featuring Qualcomm chips based on Arm Holdings' architecture.
The company also announced Prism, a technology designed to facilitate running software written for Intel and AMD chips on Arm-based chips.
Copilot+ Capabilities
A standout feature of "Copilot+" is "Recall," which tracks all activities on the computer, from web browsing to voice chats, and stores a searchable history, which will allow users to easily access information from past activities even months later.
Microsoft also showcased other significant features, including:
- Copilot voice assistant functioning as a real-time virtual coach during a "Minecraft" video game demonstration
- AI-powered image creation with "Cocreate"
- Copilot PCs that showcase faster performance than Apple devices when using Adobe software
This news comes amid Apple's recent announcement of an AI-focused chip, which is expected to be used in its future laptops.
The new devices were revealed a day before Microsoft's annual developer conference, with the goal of maintaining a lead in developing consumer-friendly AI tools.
Microsoft’s partnership with OpenAI gives it a significant advantage over Alphabet's Google. However, both OpenAI and Google showcased advanced AI technologies capable of real-time, interactive voice responses.
Google also announced new generative AI features for its search engine, intensifying the competition.
