Amazon has enlisted the help of American comedian and actress Michelle Buteau to aid in its new Back-to-School campaign.
Directed by Golden Globe-winning actor Ramy Youssef, a 49-second spot sees Buteau encouraging parents to cut back on expenses and spend less money on their "favorite freeloaders."
This is made possible through Amazon's eCommerce services, which house low prices for everything its customers' kids might need for the school year — starting at 25 cents.
This year's "Spend Less on Your Kids" with Buteau and Youssef marks the third iteration of the campaign, made in hopes of bringing comic relief to parents pressured by back-to-school shopping.
In 2023, Amazon tapped actor Randall Park to tout its low-cost deals.
And who better to relay this message, and at the same time, bring in laughs than Amazon's spokesparent Buteau?
"Pairing two of the most unique voices in comedy helped take this campaign’s comedic observations of costly kids to another level," Jo Shoesmith, Amazon's global chief creative officer, said in a statement.
Youssef, who is a comedian himself, also related his experience working with Buteau on the campaign.
"She makes everything funny and her energy is the perfect embodiment of the mom inside all of us. Yes. She made me feel my own inner mother. I will not explain what that means," he shared.
Parents Shop Smart With Amazon
The short commercial kickstarts with Buteau talking directly to her parent viewers. "I love my kids, but I also love not being broke," the comedian hilariously quips.
This is why for the upcoming school year, she decided to spend less on her children with the help of Amazon's back-to-school deals.
The eCommerce giant's wide selection of low-priced school items includes water bottles that kids will not lose, tablets that help parents take a break from their kids, and "sports stuff" regardless of the sport.
Parents can find on Amazon can even the latest "lit rizzy rizz clothes."
"So spend less on your favorite little freeloaders with Amazon, 'cause every dollar you don't spend on them, is a dollar you haven't spent on them," Buteau tells the viewers, as she closes the spot.
Amazon has the budget to hire big-name comedians and actors to promote their campaigns, maximizing media exposure, audience reach, and awareness.
However, smaller businesses need not spend as much to achieve similar results.
Investing in well-planned eCommerce marketing strategies, like retargeting, influencer marketing, online contests, and PPC advertising is a great way to get your brand out there and promote different campaigns.
