Lunchables turned up the heat on a long-running pizza argument with a product built for the debate.
The brand launched the limited-edition Lunchables Pizza Grill for National Pizza Month.
Kraft Heinz's in-house agency The Kitchen developed the device, which fits all three pizzas in a Lunchables Pizza pack.
Alyssa Cicero, associate director of brand communications for Lunchables, told DesignRush the brand treated nostalgia as an opening to refresh a 30-year-old product.
"Lunchables Pizza has built a unique kind of fandom over the years, with so many people connecting it to childhood memories while continuing to know and love it today.
With that in mind, we saw an incredible opportunity to take an iconic experience and make it feel fresh and unexpected," she shared.
"The Pizza Grill does exactly that, putting a playful new spin on a Lunchables favorite fans have loved for decades."
The campaign extends across creator content, paid media, owned social, and earned media.
Familiar fan habit becomes the reason to buy, participate, and pick a side.
Lunchables Makes Its Pizza Debate Physical
The Lunchables Pizza Grill gives the brand's hot-versus-cold debate a literal format.
Fans can unpack their pizzas, build them, and light the grill over an open fire before comparing the warm result with the familiar cold version.
The device fits all three pizzas in a Lunchables Pizza pack and will be sold exclusively through Walmart.com in October, while supplies last.
Each purchase also includes a coupon for one free Lunchables Pizza pack, giving buyers two opportunities to test the product both ways.
The Kitchen pairs the product with creators on TikTok and Instagram, where comedy, taste tests, and hot takes can keep the argument moving.
Paid media across Reddit, Meta, and Fallen Media extends the conversation outside the brand's owned channels.
The campaign also gives Lunchables a way to formalize a behavior it has acknowledged for years.
"The best brand ideas often come from something fans are already doing," Simon Au, executive creative director at The Kitchen, said in a press release.
"We're tapping into the debate and celebrating the many ways fans enjoy Lunchables Pizza, whether they're Team Hot or not."
Lunchables Pizza packs already list microwave directions, so heating the product was never a workaround.
The Grill gives Kraft Heinz something to sell against a habit it had only permitted, which is one of the cheaper routes to product innovation.
33% of Lunchables Fans Eat Their Pizza Hot
Lunchables says more than a third of its fans now choose to eat its Pizza warm, citing TalkWalker social-listening data collected from July 2025 through July 2026.
Kraft Heinz has a longer history with heated Lunchables.
In 2023, it launched Lunchables Grilled Cheesies using its 360CRISP technology.
The range included a Pepperoni Pizza variety, giving the company another example of adapting Lunchables for warm consumption.
The product gives Lunchables a way to test whether interest in warm Pizza is valid and translates into purchase behavior.
- Online interest needs a physical test. Brands can track campaign sales and redemptions to measure whether interest creates demand for core products.
- Heating can become part of product innovation. Brands can treat preparation preferences as signals for new formats to create fresh consumption occasions.
- Novelty needs to support repeat purchase. Companies can compare sales around launches to see whether they drive continued use after LTO products disappear.
The Grill functions as both a novelty product and a small-scale test of consumer demand to support further Pizza innovation.
Our Take: Can a Gadget Give Lunchables a New Ritual?
Kraft Heinz already solved hot Lunchables Pizza three years ago.
We think that the Grill functions as a demand test, since it needs an open fire, and most fans who eat hot Lunchables Pizza are using a microwave.
And the Walmart.com exclusivity gives Lunchables a controlled retail setting for this experience.
A free Pizza coupon also connects the novelty item to the product people already know.
Redemptions show whether hot-pizza talk turns up at checkout.
If the numbers hold, Lunchables gets its argument for a heated Pizza SKU, and the Grill was the most effective way to make it.
Mars is doing something similar with Skittles Gummy Crystals, which wraps a soft gummy in crunchy candy to give fans a new reason to buy a familiar product.
Both brands are selling the same thing, which is a different sensation from a product people know by heart.
