Google, Nvidia Expand Partnership on AI Innovation

Tech giants Google and Nvidia have announced plans to expand their partnership to meet the need for AI innovation by building and deploying "massive models for generative AI and speed data science workloads."

Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang welcomed the partnership during a fireside chat at the Google Cloud Next event.

"We're at an inflection point where accelerated computing and generative AI have come together to speed innovation at an unprecedented pace," Huang said.

"Our expanded collaboration with Google Cloud will help developers accelerate their work with infrastructure, software, and services that supercharge energy efficiency and reduce costs," he added.

Kurian also explained that many of Google's products are built using Nvidia GPUs, and customers are looking for "Nvidia accelerated computing to power efficient development of LLMs to advance generative AI."

In line with this partnership, Google Cloud shared the general availability of its new A3 instances powered by NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPUs.

"These GPUs bring unprecedented performance to all kinds of AI applications with their Transformer Engine — purpose-built to accelerate LLMs," the company explained. 

Earlier this year, Google Cloud hailed Nvidia as its Generative AI Partner of the Year, strengthening the partnership between the two companies. 

"The joint effort takes multiple forms, from infrastructure design to extensive software enablement, to make it easier to build and deploy AI applications on the Google Cloud platform," it noted at the time.

Google Launches Duet AI for Workspace

At the height of its AI-accelerating efforts, the tech conglomerate also announced in a separate blog post that it was making its highly anticipated Duet AI for Workspace available to the general public.

Duet AI was unveiled during the annual Google I/O event in May and has since rolled out exclusively for beta testers and select companies.

Starting Tuesday, users interested in using this AI-powered tool can try Duet AI on a no-cost trial and purchase the full version for $30 a month. 

With Duet AI, users can turn their Google Docs outlines into presentation decks in Slides, create generated emails in Gmail, and summarize documents in the Drive.
