Elon Musk's X to Launch a Dedicated TV App

Elon Musk's social media platform X has plans to make its dedicated app for smart TVs in a new effort to push its video and entertainment content in other mediums.

While no date has been announced, a post says the app is expected to launch soon.

Through the X TV app, users may play videos from their smartphones directly on TV screens, allowing TV brands to utilize their operating systems to streamline the viewing experience.

"From the small screen to the big screen X is changing everything," X CEO Linda Yaccarino shared in a post.

"Soon we’ll bring real-time, engaging content to your smart TVs with the X TV App."

X TV App Features

According to Yaccarino, the X TV App will include the following features:

• Trending Video Algorithm to stay updated with popular content
• AI-Powered Topics, organizing videos by subject for a seamless, personalized experience
• Cross-Device Experience that lets users watch on their phone and continue on their TV.
• Enhanced Video Search that helps user content faster with our improved video search.
• Effortless Casting from mobile devices.

X also announced several high-profile partnerships earlier this year as part of its video push, aiming to bring more professionally produced video content to the service.

These include a deal with WWE, an original show hosted by Tulsi Gabbard and host Jim Rome, and another hosted by newscaster and political commentator, Tucker Carlson.

While some efforts have been successful, others, including the controversial deal with former CNN anchor Don Lemon, fell apart.

In a separate memo targeting potential customers and partners, X stated its intention to monetize its video content and explore various partnership models, including advertising.

"We do plan to monetize it, and will discuss different forms of partnerships — and that may include ads," it said.

Since last year, Musk has been urging the platform to transition from a text and image-based social platform to a more comprehensive "everything app."

This push stems partly from advertiser flight and the need to identify new revenue streams while differentiating the platform.

The Tesla and Space X owner has previously singled out YouTube and LinkedIn as potential targets for X's expansion efforts.
