Investment company Wealthsimple just launched a new campaign to motivate audiences to reach their financial goals.
"Sluggish" is marked by a short charming spot from global production company Epoch Films starring an animated slug on a journey to get across a seemingly endless sidewalk.
Despite its slow pace and tiny stature, the slug's story serves as a powerful metaphor for the obstacles we encounter on our own paths to success.
Whether it's a boulder, a crack in the pavement, or bad weather, the slug persists until it finally reaches its destination.
It is a reminder that progress isn’t always swift, but every inch forward counts.
Wealthsimple wants us to know that just like the slug, we too can overcome our boulders and get to where we want to be.
"Hearing the slug describe a rock as if it was some kind of impossible mountain reminds us that everything in life is in perspective,” Epoch Films' Martin de Thurah, who directed the spot, said in a statement.
"Human life is an eternal struggle in which every challenge we overcome delivers us to the start of a new challenge. It sounds exhausting, and sometimes it is, but it is also filled with the tantalizing light of hope. That sense of slow progress — illusory or not — gives our lives purpose," he added.
The latest spot from Wealthsimple is a bright reflection of its brand identity — clear, relatable, and most of all, human.
Through thoughtful brand storytelling and captivating visuals, "Sluggish" captures the essence of financial empowerment without overwhelming its audience.
And it seems to be effective as the video has already been viewed nearly 2 million times on YouTube alone.
This can be achieved when partnering with trusted and experienced video production firms like Epoch Films.
Slow and Steady Wins the Race
The one-minute spot kicks off with the slug cruising through his morning at his usual pace. Suddenly, he is met with a pocket-sized boulder, which stands in front of his way.
"I was thinking at that point: I can't. I literally cannot. After everything I've already been through?" the mollusk narrated, as he is shrouded with doubt.
He then recounts his past struggles, such as raindrops, a crack on the sidewalk, and his friend Marty just breezing past him.
Next, he ponders on how other people are able to overcome their obstacles with ease, "because we all know it never gets easier."
"Life just keeps throwing things at you. Things just keep happening," he says.
However, the slug perseveres, braving through it all, until he eventually crawls his way over the boulder and onto the other side of the pavement.
"Getting ahead is hard. We make it easier," the screen reads, as the commercial ends.
