Volvo is introducing its most powerful vehicle yet in terms of computing capacity with the upcoming ES90, a midsize luxury electric sedan.
The new EV will feature a dual Nvidia Drive AGX Orin setup, allowing it to perform 508 trillion operations per second (TOPS), making it a leader in AI-powered automotive technology.
This supercomputer is part of Volvo’s Superset tech stack, a modular engineering platform that will underpin all future Volvo models.
The ES90 is the first vehicle to launch with this system, enabling ultra-fast processing for AI-driven safety features, battery management, and sensor integration.

According to Volvo, the Orin system marks an “eightfold” improvement over the Nvidia Xavier processor used in earlier models.
The boost in computing power allows Volvo to enhance its deep learning model and neural network, increasing parameters from 40 million to 200 million.
In a press release, Anders Bell, Volvo’s chief engineering and technology officer, shares that the new sedan represents a major leap in smart vehicle innovation.
“The Volvo ES90 is one of the most technically advanced cars on the market today and is designed to be improved further with time. Built on our state-of-the-art Superset tech stack, the ES90 puts safety at the forefront.”
Volvo is marketing the ES90 as more than just a car — it’s a smart, evolving vehicle that gets better over time with software updates.
This approach keeps drivers engaged and reinforces the brand’s commitment to innovation and long-term value.
Volvo’s Vision for AI-Powered Vehicles
The ES90 is built on Volvo’s SPA2 architecture and follows the EX90 in adopting the Superset platform.
Over-the-air software updates will allow both vehicles to receive continuous improvements, from driver assistance upgrades to enhanced battery performance.
Tesla pioneered the concept of software-upgradable vehicles, and now, Volvo is aiming to catch up.
However, the EX90 launch faced delays due to software challenges, and several promised features were missing upon release.
Volvo says that with Superset, future updates will be seamless across its lineup, ensuring long-term technological advancements.
The ES90 is expected to play a key role in Volvo’s vision for AI-driven safety and performance, demonstrating the brand’s commitment to evolving automotive technology.
The full reveal will be held on March 5.
