Toyota just put a sparkling Juicy logo on the back of a city car.
The carmaker has joined Juicy Couture on a one-off Aygo X Juicy Edition aimed at drivers who miss the early 2000s.
The brand partnership links two names that were everywhere in that decade.
Juicy supplied the velour tracksuits, while the Toyota Aygo arrived as a small, nippy car that became a common sight on city roads.
Two decades on, the Aygo X brings more space, more power, and hybrid technology to the same urban formula.
Emma Johnson, Toyota (GB) director of brand and customer engagement, believes that teaming up with the fashion house was a way to harness Y2K nostalgia.
It was also their special way of connecting with a generation of drivers "who want their car to be a very visible expression of their personal style."
The car is also the prize.
One winner will drive the Juicy Edition home after a competition quiz on memorable moments from the early 2000s.
The competition is live now at their microsite, where entry details and terms are listed.
Inside the Pink Zebra Aygo X
The Juicy Edition is everything a Y2K-lover would want in a four-wheeled car.
It wears an all-over pink zebra-pattern wrap from bonnet to boot, with a diamante version of the Juicy logo sitting on its tailgate, and its alloy wheels painted in pink vinyl.
Inside, plush pink leather seats carry the Juicy logo in silver metallic stitching, and zebra print appears on details such as the air vents and gear shift.
Toyota is also taking the campaign to physical locations.
Pink fluffy mirror dice, branded with Juicy Couture and Aygo X, will be handed out at Toyota shopping centre events across the UK over the coming weeks while stocks last.
All in all, the giveaway gives visitors who never win the car a small piece of it for their own mirror, incentivizing car owners who want their vehicles decked out in Y2K style.
A Quiz That Pays Off in Entries
Nostalgia marketing is the pull here, and younger adults feel it most.
A 2026 Talker Research survey commissioned by Visit Anaheim found 61% of Gen Z and 54% of millennials expect this year to focus on nostalgia.
Marketers looking to tap into a specific demographic should look at these three moves from Toyota here:
- Gate the prize behind a quiz: Trivia asks entrants to spend time answering questions about their favorite era before they win. This gives the brand a longer visit than a simple entry form.
- Hand out small pieces of the big prize: The pink fluffy mirror dice give people who will never win the car something to take home and use.
- Dress the product in the partner's signature details: The diamante tailgate logo and zebra-print cabin make the car recognizable at a glance in a single photo.
A one-off prize works best when the entrants who lose still leave with a piece of it.
Our Take: Is a Consolation Prize Enough?
Only one entrant will drive the Aygo X Juicy Edition home, and everyone else will leave without the car.
Most people who take part will walk away with nothing bigger than a set of pink fluffy mirror dice.
But this is where the genius lies.
A small object like that hangs in a car every day, and each glance at it brings the attention back to Juicy Couture and Toyota long after the quizzes are taken.
That is why the dice may do more to keep the collaboration in people's memory than the car itself.
And sometimes, that's enough to keep the brands top of mind.
Automotive brands need partners who understand how to build campaigns for diverse audiences.
