'The Sand CastleDonna' Restaurant: Key Findings
Campaign Snapshot
DoorDash's The Sand CastleDonna is an architectural feat.
The brand, working with creative production studio MikeTeevee, has introduced The Sand CastleDonna, a life-size sandcastle restaurant designed to mark the launch of DoorDash Reservations in Miami.
Constructed in Jungle Plaza in the Miami Design District, the pop-up runs December 11–14, 2025, with reservations available exclusively through the DoorDash app.

The structure combines 100 tons of sand, a metal skeleton, and layers of fabric, chicken wire, polyurethane foam, stucco, and scenic paint to mimic the texture of a storybook castle.
Over 40 builders, from blacksmiths and carpenters to scenic artists and lantern makers, collaborated on the project, turning the dining space into a mix of sculpture and immersive art.
“We are absolutely thrilled to partner with Casadonna… to bring The Sand CastleDonna to life,” said Parisa Sadrzadeh, VP of In-Store at DoorDash on the press release.
“This magnificent pop-up is all about delivering an unforgettable, luxury experience that our diners simply won't find anywhere else.”
David Grutman of Groot Hospitality added,
“We are happy to be partnering with DoorDash Reservations to give exclusive access to The Sand CastleDonna, a pop-up by Casadonna in Miami’s Design District where we will be featuring some of our new menu selections for the DoorDash reservation guests.”
The surrounding landscape, filled with more than 120 plants and trees, evokes the lush, coastal-luxury aesthetic associated with Casadonna’s design legacy.
A Sandcastle Built for Dining
DoorDash introduced its in-app reservation feature in Miami earlier in 2025 with a clear goal: to help diners access top restaurants and discover experiences.
The Sand CastleDonna serves as the marquee activation for that ambition.

The experience includes:
- A complimentary three-course lunch or four-course dinner showcasing Casadonna’s Mediterranean Italian cuisine.
- Zero-cost reservations, providing a high-end dining moment without a cost barrier.
- Daily reservation drops at 10 a.m. EST, creating genuine scarcity and urgency.
This blend of exclusivity, limited access, and striking visual design generates exactly the type of social buzz and cultural relevance DoorDash aims for in a crowded hospitality landscape.
From Door to Dine
A physical pop-up can reposition a digital-native brand as lifestyle-driven and culturally attuned.

DoorDash leveraged architecture, artistry, and hospitality to create an experience that extends beyond logistics or meal delivery, which leads us to these takeaways:
- Scarcity drives demand: A free but hard-to-obtain experience can deliver stronger buzz than a traditional luxury offering.
- Timing amplifies narrative: Launching the pop-up alongside the reservation feature rollout creates a seamless story around discovery, access, and delight.
- Partnerships increase credibility: Collaborating with Casadonna and MikeTeevee ensures the experience feels both premium and authentic.
These lessons extend well beyond dining, as any brand launching a feature or service can borrow from this model to spark attention, encourage engagement, and shape perception.
Our Take: Does This Approach Work?
We think it works, but only because DoorDash committed to the bit with absolute conviction.
A full restaurant sculpted from sand is the kind of idea that can easily drift into gimmick territory, and parts of this activation do flirt with that line.
What saves it is the intention behind it. The scarcity feels earned, the design is genuinely arresting, and the partnership with Casadonna gives it real substance instead of influencer fluff.
Many tech brands try this and miss the mark because the physical execution feels disposable. Here, the environment does the heavy lifting, and the product story fits the moment rather than interrupting it.
Our only hesitation is that stunts like this can overshadow the feature they are meant to support. For now, though, this one delivers enough imagination and cultural lift to justify its scale.
This activation follows DoorDash’s recent push into cultural moments, including its campaign as an official supporter of the FIFA 2026–2027 tournaments.
