Supermarket chain Aldi added a festive twist to its holiday lineup by unveiling its iconic Cuthbert Caterpillar chocolate treat alongside a lively “Merry Cuthmas” choir outside M&S, a competitor store.
The social media campaign, created by advertising agency McCann Manchester, blends humor, tradition, and goodwill to charm audiences and spread holiday cheer.
The choir performed reimagined versions of beloved Christmas carols, including "Hark the Herald" and "Joy to the World," with lyrics celebrating its Christmas Cuthbert cake roll.

“Merry Cuthmas” is part of Aldi’s broader effort to engage audiences during the holidays while supporting meaningful initiatives.

A Naughty Caterpillar, A Festive Choir, & Some Nervous Lawyers
Aldi’s two-minute video begins outside an M&S store, with a conductor in a caterpillar costume leading the choir.
Cuthbert the Caterpillar takes center stage, with its cheerful face appearing everywhere — from covering the store's logo in the background to adorning the lyric sheets held by the choir.
One of the singers is even carrying the Merry Cuthbert chocolate roll.
The choir performs playful parodies of classic Christmas songs, with hilarious lyrics like "Come you can hold him. Serves 12 and he tastes swell" set to the tune of "O Come, All Ye Faithful."
The video concludes with a heartfelt touch: a red donation bucket supporting the Teenage Cancer Trust, accompanied by the cheerful greeting, “Merry Cuthmas, everyone!”
The Facebook post has since been viewed over 2 million times.
Previously, Aldi worked with McCann Manchester in another holiday campaign that featured its famous mascot, Kevin the Carrot.
