Adidas unveiled its highly anticipated Adizero Desert Runner with a unique art piece that stays true to the spirit of the shoe, taking inspiration from "the Arabian desert's vastness and the shimmering blue oasis that punctuates its sands."
Made together with renowned landscape artist David Popa, the brand's new initiative is its first-ever anamorphic art piece.
It was built at Al Madam, an abandoned town located at the heart of the Sharjah Desert in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Adidas EMC SVP and General Manager Bilal Fares said in a news release that the Adizero Desert Runner was designed to mirror the spirit of the desert: "durable, adaptable, and encouraging runners."
"Launching this exclusive design alongside an art piece inspired by the desert’s unique energy highlights the potential for impact that each runner can have in the region," Fares added.

It boasts an astounding 100 meters in length, true to the large-scale creations Popa is known for, and perfectly blends with the Arabian desert that the shoe was inspired by.
Notably, the piece was accomplished by a team of three artists and technicians within just eight to nine days.
The huge artwork was also made using only eco-friendly and recyclable materials, showcasing both Adidas and Popa's commitment to sustainable practices.
The region-exclusive collection officially hit online and physical stores last November 27.
A Desert Canvas
The latest art installation from Popa and the legacy sports brand hopes not just to pay homage to one of UAE's most iconic deserts but also to capture the essence of the region-exclusive running shoe.
Popa also spoke about his latest piece, calling art in the desert "a language of its own:"
"The sand, the light, and the infinite horizon come together to form a canvas unlike any other. With this artwork, we’re celebrating the desert’s beauty and its unique energy. The Adizero Desert Runner mirrors this spirit — resilience, movement, and a deep connection to the land."

By teaming up with renowned artists like Popa, Adidas is able to showcase its brand values of championing the environment, artistry, craftsmanship, and the spirit of athleticism.
And this was all accomplished through one visually stunning art piece.
Meanwhile, main competitor Nike recently brought back its legendary Wu-Tang Clan sneaker after 25 years.
