404 Design & Innovation, a creative studio based in Brazil under the umbrella of advertising agency GALERIA.ag, has announced the promotion of Mariana "Bale" Balestra to Partner and Chief Operating Officer.
The move comes as the studio celebrates its first anniversary and continues its rapid growth with award-winning global campaigns, fortifying its leadership team to drive innovation and deliver exceptional results for its clients.
Balestra, who has 25 years of experience in the industry and a history of successful client relationships with major brands like Spotify, TikTok, Netflix, and Google has been with 404 since its founding in 2023.
She previously served as Head of Operations at branding and creative agency Soko and has been instrumental in launching key campaigns at 404.
Balestra worked as the operational and production lead for the studio's breakthrough campaign for Netflix's "The Cruise Heist," which was recognized by Cannes Lions, El Ojo, and Clio.

In an exclusive statement to DesignRush, Balestra emphasizes how creativity and operational excellence intersect to unleash performance:
"A strong culture and smooth work experience can unleash the full potential of talented individuals. We see too many talented people join chaotic agencies and their work suffers as a result.
As COO, my role will be to help the Operations team design methodologies and guide clients through the best possible process towards excellence, ensuring that our studio environment fosters creativity and maximizes the potential of our team.”
Meanwhile, 404 Co-Founder Rafael Caldeira highlighted how Balestra will lead the studio’s operations and build long-term relationships with top-tier clients:
“Bale has shown that she has this same sensibility and the skills and leadership to expand our vision. She has earned the respect of the industry for managing design operations while maintaining a true passion for craft and production.”
404's design-first approach integrates creative marketing with efficient, tech-driven processes to create powerful campaigns that leave a lasting impression.
This formula has fast-tracked the studio's success, making it one of Brazil’s most-awarded independent creative companies in just one year.
Shaping the Future of Creative Studios
As the company builds on its early successes, Balestra's leadership is expected to strengthen its position in the global marketplace.
The studio's commitment to a “maker mentality” and its strong operational foundation remain at the heart of its expansion.
Looking ahead, 404 will continue to push boundaries in design and innovation as it expands its collaborations with leading global brands.
Meanwhile, other companies in the industry are also making significant moves this year. Recently, Horizon Media Holdings announced Bob Lord, IBM's former chief digital officer, as its first-ever president.
