The Gang Releases 'Shrek Swamp Tycoon' Game on Roblox

Roblox is bringing the popular DreamWorks franchise "Shrek" back into the realm of gaming with a new in-game experience.

Made by international game developer studio The Gang, together with Universal Products & Experiences, the "Shrek Swamp Tycoon" marks the first official appearance of the green ogre in the world of Roblox. 

It offers a unique tycoon-style game that's sure to bring joy to fans of the franchise. 

In the game, players can explore beyond the iconic "Beware Ogre" signpost to enter Shrek’s swamp, where they can find iconic characters from the movie.

They can also make their own experience map and rebuild locations popularized by the 2001 film, including Gingy's Gingerbread House and Shrek's humble abode by collecting coins and finding hidden platforms.

The in-game experience will introduce new user-generated content (UGC) items, character heads for Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, and more exclusive features. 

"Shrek has been a fan favorite since the release of the first film more than 20 years ago, and we have many fans within our team,” Marcus Holmström, CEO and founder of The Gang, said.

The CEO further expounded on The Gang's collaboration with Universal Products & Experiences, leveraging its Roblox knowledge to develop an experience unlike any other. 

Evan Opperman, The Gang's Senior Client Director, called the project a dream to work on, especially for who "grew up appreciating the brilliance of Shrek."

"We aimed to create the Shrek experience that Gen Z and Gen Alpha want to play on Roblox, and have listened to input and feedback from the players as we have developed through beta over the past several months. It’s amazing to see how well the community has reacted to the game that we built for them, and we’re very much looking forward to the future for Shrek on Roblox," Opperman concluded.

This latest collab follows the success of The Gang's previously introduced tycoon experiences, which include "Pancake Empire Tower Tycoon" and "PacSun Tycoon," which have garnered tens of millions of plays since their launch last year.

Po Joins Roblox

Apart from the Shrek experience, the team-up also introduces a new combat game titled "Kung Fu Panda: Hero Showdown," inspired by one of DreamWorks' most popular franchises. 

Here, players are brought to Juniper City and Gongmen City to flex kung fu moves synonymous with Kung Fu Panda characters such as Po, Shifu, and Tai Lung. 

"With Shrek Swamp Tycoon and Kung Fu Panda: Hero Showdown, players and fans will get to experience the action and humor of these worlds on an immensely popular platform, in games designed to be played and shared together," Bill Kispert, SVP & GM of Games & Digital Platforms at Universal Products & Experiences, shared in a press statement.

It's not rare for famous franchises to dip their toes on popular gaming platforms like Roblox. 

Earlier this month, skatewear brand Vans introduced "Vans World 2.0," its second collaboration with Roblox also made by The Gang.

The world introduces players to new skate challenges, tricks, environments, and new avatar customization options.
