Tango, together with VCCP London, just launched a new spot reminiscent of its unhinged marketing antics in the early 2000s.
Titled "The Warden," the 30-second spot kickstarts with a warden asking the inmate Wilkins to hand over his bottle of soda.
"What sir? It's just a bit of fizzy orange," Wilkins responds.
However, upon inspection, what hid beneath the unsuspecting bottle was a can of Tango Orange — AKA, "the most powerful flavor on the street."
After sending Wilkins to the hole, the officer takes a small sip of the soda and things begin to get crazy.
A funky dance number ensues in the hallway, as the officer removes his vest and lets loose rolls of tissue paper.
"He's completely Tango'd!" one inmate shouts, as the warden tells all of them to get back to their cells.
Classic Bold Comedy
The latest efforts from Tango build off its iconic spots that date decades back, using a bold, unapologetic, and comedic approach to tell its brand story.
It's also the second among the brand's recent adverts that riff off the "dangerously potent flavor" tagline meant to assert its powerful taste and attract the Gen-Z audience.
"Tango is back with another mischievous ad, building on our brand’s iconic roots as we continue to break boundaries within the soft drinks category," shared Munnawar Chishty, Tango's CMO.
"The 'Warden' campaign is the perfect follow-up to 'Bust', driving home the message that above all other competitors, Tango is the go-to if you want an outrageously potent flavor," she concluded.
Apart from "The Warden," Tango will boost its marketing efforts with behind-the-scenes-style and inmate "POV" videos on TikTok and various social media platforms.
