Dave & Buster's Valentine's Day Diamond Rings: Key Findings
Campaign Snapshot
Dave & Buster’s is turning its viral Human Crane into a Valentine’s Day gamble.
The eatertainment chain will be hiding five $15,000, 3-carat diamond engagement rings inside its life-sized claw game on February 14 at select stores.
And all it takes to play is $20, a small price to pay for a chance to win this luxurious piece of jewelry designed by Platinum Days.
Valentine’s Day is one of the most popular days to propose, and Dave & Buster’s hopes this unexpected twist will tap into the holiday’s romance while boosting brand awareness.

The Human Crane experience usually invites players to climb into a harness and reach for oversized prizes in a pit of goodies.
“Dave & Buster’s has always been about bringing people together for unforgettably fun moments, and date nights are no exception,” said Melissa Powers, VP of Marketing at Dave & Buster’s.
“This Valentine’s Day, we’re elevating that experience even further by giving couples a chance to turn date night into a proposal they’ll never forget.”

To sweeten the lead-up to Valentine’s Day, the chain is also offering its $99 Date Night Duo Deal at all locations Monday through Friday before February 14.
The all-in-one package includes two 90-minute All-You-Can-Play game cards plus a sit-down meal with one appetizer, two entrées, and one dessert.
Dave & Buster’s hopes that this entire experiential gimmick will appeal to couples who want something more lively than a traditional prix-fixe dinner.
What Couples Can Expect
The Human Crane Valentine’s Day experience will function much like the usual game, but as you may guess, with far higher stakes.
Participants are lowered into the prize pit and must grab what they can within a set time.
Alongside usual oversized toys and goodies, a handful of players might just hoist a ring worth thousands of dollars.

Reservations for the Date Night Duo Deal must be made in advance through OpenTable and are limited by availability.
Players hoping for a ring should check which locations are participating, as not all outlets will host the Valentine’s Day Human Crane setup.
Dave & Buster’s previously rolled out nationwide expansions of the Human Crane, such as a limited-edition claw purse.

Dave & Buster’s current market capitalization sits at roughly $670 million, an 18.91% increase from last year.
This highlights the scale at which these sorts of promotional lifts operate, footing traffic expectations and revenue momentum.
A High-Stakes Valentine’s Play
Dave & Buster’s offers a timely case study in bold experiential play, especially at a time like Valentine's Day.
Here's what marketers can practice for their next bold campaign move:
- Turning a flagship attraction into a high-stakes holiday moment can capture media buzz and consumer curiosity.
- Layering a tangible deal like a meal and play combo helps move the core experience and makes it even more memorable.
- Offering special rewards like a diamond engagement ring adds real emotional weight to an otherwise playful arcade experience.
Our Take: Could This Proposal Game Score Big?
I’ve seen plenty of experiential stunts, but this one toes the line between clever and chaotic.
Something as serious as an engagement ring should have no place inside an arcade game, but Dave & Buster’s took a leap anyway.
It’s a gutsy move that could generate stories, social posts, and press far beyond typical Valentine’s offerings.
However, its success will depend heavily on execution. If the experience feels too gimmicky or unreachable, it may just leave players feeling frustrated rather than inspired.
Still, taking a risk can be exactly what a legacy entertainment brand like Dave & Buster's needs.
In other news, Dove recently launched a sweepstakes campaign, encouraging consumers to call a hotline for a chance to win tickets to the Grammys.
