Adidas Launches New FIFA Women's World Cup Ad Featuring NFL, WNBA, NBA Stars

Adidas just launched a new spot where famous athletes answer the question: “Who is the greatest football player of all time?”  

The 30-second commercial stars National Football League (NFL) players Patrick Mahomes and Trevor Lawrence, as well as Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) players Candace Parker, Aliyah Boston, and NBA player Donovan Mitchell as they weigh in on who they think is the best on the pitch.  

However, instead of answering the question, each star gets into why the sport shouldn’t even be called football – because there’s also fútbol, “football,” and soccer. 

In a montage of their answers, the athletes say, “It takes equal parts, power, poise, finesse […] They play on a bigger stage than any of us,” suggesting that women’s soccer players are among the best “football” players of all time.

"The Greatest Soccer Players" was made by the advertising agency Opinionated and directed by Taylor Twist.  

First aired during the NBA Finals, the commercial was made in anticipation of the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup. 

Adidas Senior Vice President of Brand Communications Chris Murphy explained that it is meant to celebrate the “incredible year for sport” and mark that milestone by bringing some of the country’s greatest athletes together to show support for the world’s most popular sport and its players.
