Behind the Production of Jak’s ‘Defy Simple’
UandME worked with a team of acclaimed collaborators to bring the JAK concept to life, blending movement and visual storytelling into a cohesive brand narrative.
- Cinematographer Rui Poças brings decades of experience in feature films, including Tabu (2012), Zama (2017), and Frankie (2019).
Widely recognized for his mastery of black-and-white cinematography, Poças is celebrated for his precise use of light to define mood and meaning.
- Choreographer Marco da Silva Ferreira began his career in street dance and has since become an international voice in contemporary choreography.
Da Silva Ferreira's works include BROTHER, Corpos de Baile for the Portuguese National Ballet, and Carcaça, which won the 2023 Best Choreography Award from the Portuguese Society of Authors.
He is currently an associate artist at Maison de la Danse in Lyon, extending his influence across European stages.

Together, their collaboration created a visual rhythm where light and movement became narrative tools, shaping the story of the JAK brand.
“Choreography was super important to tell the story, and above all, the choreographer and the Director of Photography had to be in tune to understand the importance of transitions, both with body movements of light and camera movements,” said director and producer Carla Sequeira.
From Concept to Recognition
The project demonstrates how the right team can transform an idea into a compelling brand story.
Creative vision, technical skill, and seamless collaboration ensured both artistic success and strategic impact.
Sequeira underscored the importance of understanding the product and target audience.
“But above all, it is important to invest as much as possible to grow and sell more. That means investing in strong creativity, and realizing that a good campaign is not just about visibility but about real engagement.”
Meanwhile, thoughtful production delivers results that engage audiences and guide future campaigns.
For CMOs and business leaders, the takeaways are clear:
- Cross-disciplinary talent elevates brand storytelling.
- Creative-technical alignment ensures campaigns resonate across audiences.
- Award recognition is not only validation but also a lever for brand positioning.
The JAK spot demonstrates how combining these factors can earn recognition while reinforcing a brand’s presence.
