The Pill People make their comeback in the latest set of spots from Beats by Dre, marking the return of the famous portable speaker, the Beats Pill.
Acting as sequels to the first Pill People ad which coincided with the speaker's release in June, two spots follow the continuing adventures of the adorable wide-eyed mascots, who correspond to different Beats Pill colorways.
In "Pill People Are Seriously Loud," three of the mascots discuss their enhanced power while chilling by the pool.
"We're more powerful now, and you know what they say comes with great power... Great responsi-" the silver Pill says, acting as the voice of reason.
He's immediately cut off by Sonia the black Pill as it floats across the pool.
"Great parties," she says.
"Well, she's not wrong," says the Mikey red Pill, in agreement.
With quick punchlines and cute character designs, the spot higlights the Beats Pill's playful nature.
A second spot called "Pill People Are Nepo Babies" sees the Pills take playful jabs at each other for being "nepotism babies," a term commonly used to describe children of rich parents whose lives are made easy due to wealth and influence.
The spot opens with black Pill Sonia taking offense to being called a nepo baby, after the silver Pill asks if her parents were Beats Pills.
Red Pill Mikey gets asked the same question, but answers in a different manner.
"Yeah, but I only use that to get into cool places and stuff, and get ahead in life."
Don't Call It a Comeback
The Pill People were first introduced as functional stands for the original Beats Pill around a decade ago, letting customers add a bit of personality to their speakers.
Their reappearance nearly 10 years later is a pleasant surprise for followers of the brand, bringing a healthy dose of 2010s nostalgia.
LeBron James and Lil Wayne starred in another high-profile spot for the product in June, signaling a comeback after its discontinuation in 2022.
Industry observers can expect to see more savvy marketing efforts from the brand in the latter half of 2024, likely featuring more celebrities alongside the brand mascots.
