Fernando Mendoza has a new city, a new team, and a very convenient insurance joke.
State Farm added the No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick to its 2026 football campaign with "Vegas Can Change a Man."
The Amazon spot stars Mendoza and Jake from State Farm.
The co-branded commercial premiered during September 17's Thursday Night Football as the Raiders' quarterback waits on his first regular-season snap.
Highdive created the campaign, with Optimum Sports, STN, Pretzl, Infinity Marketing Team, OMD, and FleishmanHillard supporting the 360-degree football effort.
State Farm Chief Agency, Sales & Marketing Officer Kristyn Cook said the brand is using his move to Vegas to show how customer needs can change.
"We're having some fun with his move to Vegas to show what we mean when we say coverage is personal."
"When life changes, like moving to a new city, your needs change too," Cook said.
The timing creates an interesting media play because the Raiders have no regular-season Thursday Night Football game on their 2026 schedule.
State Farm put Mendoza in front of Amazon’s football audience without needing the Raiders to appear in the matchup.
The Strip Walk That Sells Personalization
"Vegas Can Change a Man" pairs the Heisman Trophy winner with Jake from State Farm as the quarterback starts his next chapter in Las Vegas.
Las Vegas itself becomes part of the advertising premise.
The instrumental of "Gangsta's Paradise" plays as the two men walk the Strip.
Mendoza then moves through a run of Vegas bits, confusing casino players by calling out "Go Fish!"
He also eats a chocolate-chip cookie after brushing his teeth.
Mendoza's decision to call his mom at the end adds more of the quarterback's own personality.
"My parents have been State Farm customers for more than 20 years, so there's a real connection there for me with the brand," he said in a statement.
State Farm named Mendoza at the campaign's August launch alongside Patrick Mahomes and Cam Skattebo, then held his spot for later in the season.
The campaign runs across broadcast, digital, social, online video, and streaming.
Custom creative has been set aside for Amazon Prime’s Thursday Night Football and CBS.
State Farm uses football talent as a recurring creative system while giving each personality a different reason to interact with Jake.
122 Million Unique Viewers, No Raiders on the Slate
Prime Video’s 2025 season averaged 15.3 million viewers across its 15-game slate, the highest average in the package’s history.
The season also reached 122.09 million unique U.S. viewers, according to Amazon Ads.
Talent selection matters here as much as the media placement.
Mendoza arrives as the reigning Heisman Trophy winner and No. 1 overall pick.
State Farm gets a recognizable football name, whether or not he plays this fall.

Football audiences can give sponsors both reach and commercial relevance, but the creative still has to convert.
- Fan involvement can strengthen sponsor value. Brands should connect football talent to a product reason to increase relevance and purchase intent.
- Large live audiences create media scale. Marketers should pair premium sports placements with custom creative to give viewers a reason to remember the sponsor.
- Personal stories make sponsorships easier to understand. Teams should give talent a specific role in the product story to create stronger associations.
The strongest sports celebrity partnerships give audiences a reason to remember the brand after the season ends.
Our Take: Can a City Transfer Sell Insurance?
Mendoza’s move gives State Farm a specific life change to connect with its personalization message.
We think that it can, and the Vegas premise is exactly what protects the media buy.
The humor runs on the city and a rookie adjusting to it, so none of it depends on Sunday football results.
The gap is the product itself.
Moving to a new state is one of the few life events that actually changes an auto or renters policy, and neither Mendoza nor Jake says so on camera.
Rookie endorsement deals usually go quiet when the player sits, and the ones that survive sell a personality the audience already likes.
The next spot should say what actually changes on a policy when a customer crosses a state line.
