Key Takeaways:

  • Squarespace’s in-house team launches "Click! Click! Click!" for ANZ markets, spotlighting local tradespeople.
  • The campaign revives “Click Go the Shears” as a modern anthem for small business owners.
  • Campaign activations include retro-inspired videos across digital, social, and OOH platforms.

If you’ve got tradie skills, Squarespace wants to show you how a few clicks can turn them into a business.

The website-building platform has launched its latest campaign, "Click! Click! Click!" across Australia and New Zealand.

It reimagines the classic folk tune "Click Go the Shears" into a playful anthem for tradespeople.

The campaign highlights how Australian tradies, who make up the country’s largest small business sector, can easily take their craft online with Squarespace.

"We wanted to invite tradies to try out Squarespace by tapping into some old fashioned nostalgia with a little rendition of ‘Click Goes The Sheers’," Ben Hodgin, Senior Creative Director at Squarespace, told DesignRush.

And because the track takes listeners back to the "days of the old," the team shot the advert to feel like it was "plucked from a retro era" when jingles dominated commercials.

"It’s a celebration of their craft, and hopefully the addition of another tool that they can use to grow their business," Hodgin added.

The lighthearted approach pays homage to the country’s rich advertising history, channeling the spirit of cheeky, retro ads while delivering a modern message: building a business website doesn’t have to be complicated.

A Retro Twist on Digital Growth

Produced entirely by Squarespace’s in-house creative team, the campaign’s main spot embraces a vintage look and feel.

The video combines '70s-inspired visuals with the familiar tune, emphasizing simplicity and ease.

Tradies are shown transforming their offline craftsmanship into a polished online presence, underscoring how Squarespace can help them manage and grow their businesses.

Here, painters, gardeners, electricians, and engineers happily utilize the platform as they give viewers a look of joy.

According to Alex Neilson, senior marketing manager for Australia & New Zealand, many tradies excel at their craft but lack the training to handle the business side of things.

“Learning a trade is very different from learning to run a business,” Neilson said in the release.

“Squarespace aims to make that side as simple as possible.”

The campaign rolls out across video-on-demand platforms, social media channels, and out-of-home (OOH) placements throughout Australia and New Zealand, ensuring broad visibility among its target audience.

Our Take: Can Tech Branding Speak the Language?

I think Squarespace’s approach is a solid example of how superb tech branding can feel personal and culturally specific.

The combination of nostalgic music, humor, and a clear call to action aims to strike a chord with busy tradies looking for straightforward digital solutions.

With a well-known folk tune and retro ad style, the campaign builds brand awareness in a way that feels familiar, approachable, and uniquely Australian.

It’s a reminder that even digital-first platforms can benefit from speaking the visual and emotional language of the communities they want to serve.

Recently, identity and financial network World teamed up with BBDO NY to launch a campaign that emphasized the joys of being human.
