Pop sweetheart Sabrina Carpenter stars in NBCUniversal’s quirky new ad to promote the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Set to the tune of the star’s chart-topping global hit “Espresso,” the spot sees Sabrina express her excitement for the upcoming games.
Set in a dainty Parisian café, the ad begins with Carpenter sitting at a table surrounded by empty cups of espresso.
“Well, hello there, handsome,” she says, to an animated songbird that lands next to her.
The two talk about what the pop star is doing in Paris as she gushes about the “amazing opening ceremony on the Seine” and Team USA’s impressive roster for the Olympics, which includes Simone Biles, Noah Lyles, and Sha’Carri Richardson.

Suddenly, the ad cuts to a shot revealing that the blue bird isn’t there — it’s just a figment of her imagination.
“You need to behave yourself!” she tells the bird, letting out a hilariously hysterical and believable laugh that showcases the singer’s acting chops.
The spot ends with two of the café’s waiters commenting that the pop star has had too much espresso.
A Pop Star and a Hit Song
The adorable ad is a clear reference to Carpenter’s hit single “Espresso,” which is one of the biggest songs of the summer.
Peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in June, the song’s iconic lyrics and irresistible melody have brought Carpenter to the forefront of pop culture, following the massive success of her 2022 studio album “Emails I Can’t Send.”
“Who better than the star of the summer, Sabrina Carpenter, with her chart-topping single ‘Espresso,’ to get everyone excited about the event of the summer, the Paris Olympics,” Joseph Lee, SVP of Creative Marketing, Sports & Entertainment at NBC, said in a statement.
The “Espresso” music video now has nearly 100 million views on YouTube.
Carpenter fever has also extended to social media, where the artist has accumulated over 18.4 million followers on TikTok and 37.4 million on Instagram.
Her impressive online presence makes her a prime influencer to younger generations, with research showing that 40% of Gen Z prefers to search on TikTok as opposed to Google.
The singer is on a hot streak as of late, fresh off her appearance on the popular web interview show “Hot Ones” earlier this week.

Fans are eagerly anticipating Carpenter’s sixth studio album “Short N’ Sweet,” set for release a bit after the Olympic Games end on August 11.
The artist will follow this up with the highly anticipated “Short N’ Sweet Tour,” which will run from September 23 to November 8.
Celebrity appearances seem to be all the rage in this year’s Olympic marketing, with Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart previously starring in an Olympic campaign for BIC lighters.
