Pizza Hut is planting its red roof in neighborhoods, one tiny book box at a time.
The chain launched "Little Hut Libraries," limited-run book exchanges styled like scaled-down Pizza Hut restaurants, with the nonprofit Little Free Library.
The rollout lands in October, when National Book Month and National Pizza Month overlap.

Each box comes stocked with books and a limited number of Personal Pan Pizza gift cards while supplies last, making the book swap end with a free pizza.
"Pizza Hut has always been about more than pizza; it's about the memories and moments that happen around it," said Melissa Friebe, CMO at Pizza Hut U.S.
Little Free Library CEO Daniel Gumnit echoed these sentiments, calling the effort a "fun and nostalgic way to put more books within reach while inviting neighbors to share in the joy of reading."
How Neighbors Can Get a Hut
Little Hut Libraries are available now, and consumers can apply for one at no cost through Little Free Library's sponsorship page.
Readers take a title, leave one behind, and may find a gift card inside.

The result is a brand experience that sits on a neighborhood street, far from any restaurant parking lot.
The pizza reward echoes the BOOK IT! deal that generations of kids earned by hitting reading goals.
The effort has spent more than 40 years rewarding young readers with a pizza of their own.
And the chain's recent nostalgia push hoped to bring it back to the limelight.
Its "Hut Originals" platform put Chrissy Teigen behind the program, as well as the Summer of Stories app that lets kids earn a free Personal Pan Pizza for hitting monthly reading goals.
Little Hut Libraries carries that same mission, but this time, out to the sidewalk.
The Neighborhood Distribution Play
Little Hut Libraries are one piece of Pizza Hut's push to keep its history in circulation.
On reach, Little Free Library supplies a ready network, with more than 200,000 registered libraries in 128 countries and over 400 million books shared since 2009, the nonprofit says.
Pizza Hut's strategy offers three moves for any brand with a legacy asset:
- Recruit hosts with a badge worth displaying: A miniature red roof is something consumers associate with Pizza Hut, so each household that applies becomes a local ambassador.
- Tie the reward to a visit: Gift cards inside the box give a free book and a next step at the restaurant.
- Borrow a partner's map: Little Free Library's registered network spans all 50 states, which spares a brand from building a footprint of its own.
A legacy asset holds its value when the people nearby are more than willing to display it.
Our Take: What Does Pizza Hut Get Out of a Book Library?
Pizza Hut gets a place in the part of the day when nobody is thinking about dinner.
A box on a street gets passed on the way to school, on dog walks, and on trips to the mailbox.
And each pass is a small reminder that arrives without a media plan.
We think that repetition is what makes this effort worth it, because a kid who checks the shelf every week ties the red roof to a good feeling before they even order.
It also gives neighbors something kind to say about the brand on the porch, where recommendations travel.
All in all, the roof keeps working every day between meals.
