A cheeky new campaign from Petco and Snap Global doesn't know how to explain the behaviors of house pets.
Directed by Dan Opsal of Hungryman, "Petco Pet Mysteries" is a series of three spots trying to decipher why pets do what they do.
The first spot highlights Petco's expert groomers who know the right brush for every breed.
What Petco says it can't figure out is why dogs love to kiss themselves in the mirror.
"Some things, we don't know. Everything else, we do," a narrator says.
Another spot continues the cheeky, humorous tone with the question, "Why does your cat judge your snacking choices?"
The ad once again highlights Petco associates' wide knowledge of cat food, while not knowing how they know when their owners are sneaking a snack.
We then see a cat surprising a man from inside the snack shelf, something that many cat owners may be familiar with.
The final spot wonders why cats love to watch their owners in the shower.
Petco also uses this ad to highlight its same-day delivery option for impatient cats.
The spot ends humorously, with the cat in question making awkward eye contact with its showering owner.
Behind Petco's Offbeat Ads
Working with animals in Petco's spots poses its own set of challenges, and this latest one was no different.
"The dog had no problem making out with himself with a little help from some peanut butter on the mirror," Slap Global President and Partner Lyndsey Corona said in a statement to Clios.
"He eventually tired of it but we got the shot we needed," she continued.
According to Corona, the shower cat posed the biggest challenge, being so curious as to explore every nook and cranny of the bathroom set.
The pet wellness company previously utilized the star power of Snoop Dogg in an ad that featured the rapper as an actual dog.
Petco has an established history of creating unconventional ads, which significantly contributed to its success.
Last year, Statista data ranked it second to PetSmart as the largest pet specialty chain in North America with 1,500 stores nationwide.
