McDonald's Canada Introduces 'The Grinch Meal' in Whimsical Holiday Spot

McDonald's Canada is introducing new holiday offerings, as well as a special meal that's sure to excite fans of Dr. Seuss and his stories.

Introducing The Grinch Meal: an offering inspired by the iconic character that includes a choice of a Big Mac, 10-piece McNuggets, or a McChicken sandwich, paired with the all-new Dill Pickle McShaker Fries and a medium drink.

To make the meal extra special, it also comes with a pair of exclusive mismatched Grinch socks that can be used for yourself or as a decorative stocking stuffer.

Apart from The Grinch Meal, McDonald's has also introduced the following limited-edition menu items:

  • Frozen Hot Chocolate McFlurry
  • Grinch Happy Meal featuring Grinch and Max plush toys
  • Green Heart-Shaped Cookies

A portion of the sweetheart cookie sales will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House and Ronald McDonald Family Room programs in Canada.

McDonald's Canada Brand Strategy Director Rebecca Smart shared her thoughts behind the campaign, calling the Grinch an iconic holiday character known and loved by Canadians of all ages.

“To bring The Grinch to life as part of our holiday menu offering this year and stay authentic to his character, we leaned into his mischievous ways and had him tinker with our menu to bring something fun and festive to all Canadians — The Grinch Meal.
It’s been a few years since we last launched a holiday-focused program, so we were so excited to bring some festive magic to our fans with this campaign," Smart added.

By making a meal after one of the most known holiday characters around the world, McDonald's creative marketing strategy is sure to resonate with fans of the green monster and bring added excitement to the season. 

How the Grinch Made His Meal

To amplify its marketing efforts, McDonald's has released whimsical 30- and 15-second spots introducing The Grinch Meal. 

Told in the style of a children's story rhyme, it starts at the top of the snowy mountains, where the Grinch peeks through his telescope to find people dining in at McDonald's.

"While all the Whos of Canadaville were laughing and eating, the Grinch from his lair started plotting and scheming," the narrator shared. 

The Grinch then gets down to business to figure out how to ruin their holiday meal.

He gets the idea to put Dill Pickle seasoning on fries and stitch together McDonald's and Grinch-branded holiday socks (all of which actually come with The Grinch Meal). 

"So if you want to experience the Grinch's new meal, you can head to McDonald's and show him how you feel," the narrator says as the spot ends. 

Previously, McDonald's worked together with Doodles to come up with specially designed holiday cups.
