Apple has launched a heartwarming holiday ad featuring a father with mild-moderate hearing loss, showcasing the groundbreaking Hearing Aid feature on the AirPods Pro 2.
Titled "Heartstrings," the ad was developed with Apple-dedicated creative agency, TBWA\Media Arts LAB LA, and directed by Henry-Alex Rubin of production company SMUGGLER.
This new Apple commercial, airing globally ahead of International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3, emphasizes how this innovation enhances connection and empowers users to experience life's most precious moments.
The ad’s sound design, crafted by three-time Academy Award-winning sound designer Paul N. J. Ottosson, authentically captures the experience of hearing loss, emphasizing the difference the AirPods Pro 2 can make in everyday life.
The campaign also highlights Apple's commitment to integrating assistive technology into their products, making it accessible to over a billion people with hearing loss worldwide.
The FDA's De Novo clearance of the Hearing Aid feature marks a significant milestone for AirPods Pro 2, turning them into a practical tool for those seeking better hearing in daily situations.
The ad’s release underscores a broader trend in technology, with creative agencies working to address health and well-being needs through emotional storytelling.
As digital platforms and social media amplify the message, this campaign aims to raise awareness about hearing loss and its connection to broader health issues, including dementia and social isolation.
A Pull on Your Heartstrings
“Heartstrings” opens with a family of three — a father, mother, and daughter — gathered around the Christmas tree, excitedly unwrapping gifts.
The mother mentions how they just got the present last week, and the daughter eagerly unwraps it as the father quietly looks on.
The focus shifts to the father as the dialogue grows muffled, his perspective now the center of the scene as he watches, a series of flashbacks unfold, showing moments of his daughter’s life.

The scene transitions back to the present, where the father watches his daughter play guitar, but the sounds remain muffled.
The mother gently approaches him and says, “Listen,” prompting him to insert his AirPods Pro 2, which serves as his hearing aid. The film cuts back to earlier flashbacks, now showing much clearer voices and sounds.
The spot closes with the daughter's first words, "Dada," which the dad now clearly hears.
The commercial's message seems to have resonated greatly with netizens, with Apple CEO Tim Cook's X post of the video having already garnered over 14 million views in 24 hours.
While Apple has released several commercials in recent months, "Heartstrings" marks the brand's first holiday spot of the year.
Previously, Apple launched its commercial touting the features of its Apple Pay service.
