Prime Day x LeBron Takeaways:

  • LeBron James fronts Amazon’s new “Greatness Is a Deal Away” campaign for Prime Day 2025.
  • A 60-second spot explores James’s life after basketball with humor and heart.
  • His grooming brand "The Shop" gets a 35% Prime Day discount as part of the push.

LeBron James is imagining life after basketball in Amazon’s new Prime Day campaign, and he's giving fans a deal on his own brand while he’s at it.

The basketball icon is headlining Amazon’s global campaign for Prime Day 2025, dubbed “Greatness Is a Deal Away.”

The centerpiece is a 60-second spot titled “What’s next?”, where James explores alternate futures to his career path in true celebrity fashion: as a barber, a hibachi chef, and even a velvet-voiced lounge singer.

The ad marks the official announcement of Prime Day, which runs from July 8 to 11 this year.

“It’s about that spirit of never settling, always pushing to discover what’s next,” James said in a news release.

It also signals a deepening partnership between James and Amazon, who’ve teamed up on multiple fronts.

Beyond the hero spot, the retail giant is pushing the basketball legend's grooming line as a hero product for Prime Day.

The collection includes seven daily-use items, from beard oil to facial moisturizers, meant to "help customers bring their A-game," as the release puts it.

To up the ante, an exclusive 35% discount will be given to Prime members during the event.

The partnership also continues through James’s podcast "Mind the Game," now in its second season and co-hosted with Steve Nash.

"Prime Day is our biggest moment of the year to make Prime members feel special and valued,” said Jo Shoesmith, VP and Global Chief Creative Officer explained.

He continued, saying the company chose James because “getting a great deal can make anyone feel excited and ready to embrace ‘what’s next.’”

A Multiplatform Push for Prime

The hero spot starts with LeBron in a hectic press conference revolving around his retirement.

When asked, "What's next?", he gets a notification on his phone from Amazon with the dates for Prime Day.

We're then treated to a dream sequence of the "L-Train" as a master chef, tossing sizzling shrimp onto people's plates.

After seeing a deal on clippers, the star athlete imagines himself as a barber, giving customers a fresh crown-shaped fade.

He then sees himself as a successful singer performing in lounges, and a happy camper leading a s'more-making session.

Snapping out of his daydreams, he finally responds to the audience: "Whatever it is, it's gonna be a big deal."

Fun fact, James had a special hand in shaping the creative, sketching out scenarios and choosing the song he performs in the lounge singer scene.

These touches make the film feel even more personal.

Amazon is also pushing James’ grooming line as a hero product for Prime Day.

The event itself returns with millions of deals across more than 35 categories, available exclusively to members.

More than just a sale, it has become a seasonal moment for shoppers to finally grab items they’ve been waiting on.

Our Take: Does the GOAT Still Sell?

It’s easy to say a LeBron James commercial will work. Well, who are we kidding? They always do.

But what makes this one stand out is how well it weaves storytelling into selling.

The campaign doesn’t just toss a celebrity into a promo spot; it lets James explore identity, future, and fun with his own personal touches on creative.

Personally, I liked how it made him feel approachable, even self-deprecating.

For Amazon, it’s a masterclass in using star talent to spotlight a sale without losing the narrative.

Recently, Dunkin' made use of Sabrina Carpenter's star power to launch a new summer refresher
