Advertising, marketing and public relations agency Ogilvy has appointed Maninder Bali as the agency’s newest associate president.
The former head of brand marketing at Vedantu, Bali posted on social media that he has left the edtech platform to join the creative agency. While the confirmation was only made recently, it was revealed that the executive joined the company earlier this year, in August 2022.
His move to Ogilvy happened to coincide with the edtech platform's decision to lay off more than 400 employees in the same month. It was one of several rounds of layoffs to follow at the company.
Vedantu has reportedly been facing several issues with funding that lead to the aforementioned series of layoffs and probably a few departures for greener pastures.
Despite the problems that plagued the platform, Bali described his time with the company as fulfilling.
“I’ve always been lucky, but I’ve never felt grateful, until now,” said Bali, speaking about his journey at Vedantu.
With more than 16 years of experience under his belt, Bali is expected to share his expertise in his new post at Ogilvy.
Bali's career started in the early days of digital marketing, dating back to 2005 when he joined Videocon as a marketer. One thing led to another, with Bali’s career skyrocketing when he joined Leo Burnett as a vice president. While at Burnett, he handled some high-profile accounts, including working on business and strategy for McDonald’s.
After Leo Burnett came Publicis Groupe, which he joined in 2018 as the regional business director for the Singapore market. In 2019, he returned to Leo Burnett and served as their executive vice president until June 2021.
Now that he’s joined Ogilvy, Bali's new role seems to be more in line with the work he’s previously done, handling marketing for high-profile agencies and working with some big brands as well.
Ogilvy, a global creative agency that spans almost all corners of the world, also has offices in India, where Bali will be operating from.
