Fans asked McDonald's UK to steal international menu favorites again.
Creative agency Leo UK has obliged, but the second World Menu Heist reveals a strange problem with an idea now running in more than 40 markets.
The campaign returns with nine products from seven countries, including Germany, Canada, and China.
It follows the 2025 campaign, which was adapted by more than 40 markets worldwide.
"McDonald's fans gave us the targets. We just planned the heist," said Jason Keet and James Hodson, creative directors at Leo UK.

The catch is that some of the markets now appear to be stealing from the same trail.
McDonald's Canada ran its International Menu Heist in June 2025, four months before Leo UK launched its version in October.
Jennifer DelVecchio, CMO at McDonald's Canada, said in August that the format "started here" and grew from there.
The Canadian haul included Germany's Big Rösti, which now appears as the headline item in the U.K.'s 2026 menu.
McDonald's Canada also revived World Menu Heist in August 2026, featuring Garlic & Black Pepper Chicken McNuggets from Japan.
This same product appeared in the U.K.'s 2025 haul.
The global campaign now has a circularity problem worth watching.
Once every market can steal from every other market, scarcity becomes harder to sell as something exclusive.
The Second Haul Adds 9 Items and 8 Weeks
The 2026 campaign keeps the cinematic caper format, with Leo UK creating two 30-second films around a five-stage operation.
The first film follows McDonald's crew members tracking down menu items across seven countries.
The crew secures products from around the world before transporting the haul home.
A golden McDonald's parachute then carries the goods to safety, reinforcing the campaign's classic heist-film setup.
The nine-item haul gives the story plenty of material to work with.
Germany supplies the Big Rösti, while Canada contributes the Maple & Cheddar Chicken and S'Mores McFlurry.

China supplies Szechuan Sauce, while India brings Guava x Sprite Zero.
The menu also includes Mac & Cheese Triangles from the UAE and Paprika McShaker Fries from the Netherlands.
Australia supplies both breakfast items, the Chicken & Egg McMuffin and the Chicken & Bacon McMuffin.
Mac & Cheese Triangles from the UAE also appeared in the 2025 haul, making them the first product that McDonald's UK has stolen twice.
The October 20 film opens a second menu, with those items held back until the plot twist runs.
The products appear as valuable loot throughout the campaign, including on solid-gold vaults in OOH executions.

An in-restaurant experience extends the idea with a golden parachute resting across the Golden Arches.
Creators act as "insiders," while partners become "reporters" feeding fans classified information about the operation.
LADbible brought a former detective into the campaign from launch, with the detective analyzing the hero film for clues.
On September 25, media and creators enter an immersive London vault to taste the menu and create content.
Hannah Pain, marketing and menu director at McDonald's UK, said that fans "are very good at telling us which McDonald's products they want us to bring home next, so this year we listened."
"But every good heist has a plot twist, so watch this space. We may not be finished yet."
The campaign launched on September 22 and runs for eight weeks, compared with five weeks in 2025. The second hero film arrives on October 20.
A longer run gives McDonald's more chances to sell each product, and it also keeps the same nine items visible while other markets promote their own hauls.
Product launch calendars now have to account for what sister markets are running at the same time.
The Format Now Competes With Itself
McDonald's says that World Menu Heist has now been adapted across more than 40 markets.
It shows how quickly the format outgrew its original execution, as it is also running in several markets at once.
McDonald's Australia launched its own Menu Heist on May 27, 2026, with five items from Japan, Canada, the U.K., and the U.S.
Ukraine ran it from April 15 to June 24, 2026, with 13 items drawn from eight markets.
This gives the format a growing web of products moving between markets, which puts pressure on the idea of each item being genuinely scarce.
Scarcity only has value when consumers still perceive the product as desirable.
Repeated exposure to the same products across markets could make the"rare international find" feel less distinctive.
Penetrating over 40 markets creates a repeatable global format that also puts pressure on the scarcity that drives the idea.
- Protect scarcity as the products keep circulating. Brands should track where products and campaigns have appeared to preserve a sense of discovery in each market.
- Use demand data to refresh the product mix. Social listening tells marketers which requests are still live, so each lineup answers current demand.
- Give longer campaigns fresh reasons to return. Brands should add new experiences across an extended run to give audiences reasons to return.
Wide adoption makes a campaign format cheaper to run and easier to sell internally, and it also spends the scarcity that made the first execution work.
Our Take: Is Local Demand What Makes the Heist Worth Repeating?
Menu demand looks different in every country, and this fact is what keeps each haul exclusive.
We see local appetite as the engine here, and McDonald's has the sales numbers to back it.

Leo UK used social listening to pick the nine targets, then McDonald's extended the run from five weeks to eight.
Brands do not add three weeks and a second menu unless the first haul actually moved products.
The Big Rösti still reads as a prize in the U.K. because it sits on a German menu year-round.
McDonald's runs the same logic through its BTS and SpongeBob x One Piece tie-ins, keeping the staples fixed while the additions rotate.
This balance is how McDonald's holds its lead in every market it operates.
