Dating app Tinder has just launched a set of three new spots inspired by classic romantic comedy tropes.
The ads, made together with agency Mischief @ No Fixed Address, serve as a continuation of its highly successful "It Starts With a Swipe" global campaign launched last year.
The three films depict meet-cutes with a hilarious twist — disjointed dialogue based on the first messages ever exchanged by real couples that began on Tinder.
"Daters today are nostalgic for the meet-cutes they've seen in old rom-coms. But the reality is that the rom-com meet-cute is the exception, not the rule," Tinder SVP of Marketing Stephanie Danzi said in a statement.
She went on to say that Tinder is where many modern-day meet-cutes take place, based on the app's track record of bringing together millions of couples.
This is why the dating app took it upon itself to create a new campaign that could hopefully bring love and laughs to those seeking a match.
Straight Out of the Movies
"Rescue" features appearances from "To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before" star Lana Condor as Samantha and "Gossip Girl" star Evan Mock as John.
Set in a library, the film opens with Sarah standing on a ladder as she reaches for a book on a high shelf.
Losing her balance, she slips and falls directly into John's arms.
The two then have an earnest conversation that mirrors their first Tinder chat.
Sarah speaks typos and Evan voices out emojis as the famous romcom track "Kiss Me" by Sixpence None The Richer plays in the background.
Referencing an even more common romcom trope, "Taxi" is set late at night in the big city.
After hailing the same yellow cab, Matthew asks Danielle if she believes in love at first sight.
"IDK, shrug emoji," Danielle replies.
"I do now. I do now," Matthew repeats, accidentally doing a double send.
"Or you just really meant it," Danielle says, as the two get into the cab and drive away. "I Love You Always Forever" by Donna Lewis sets the mood of the lighthearted advert.
The final spot "Rain" takes place in a field filled with flowers under the pouring rain.
Once again featuring the song "Kiss Me," it sees Kaite and Lain running to each other, meeting in the middle of the field.
One of them immediately begins discussing their astrological birth chart in a hilariously anticlimactic fashion.
"So hot," says the other.
The new ads run globally on digital and streaming platforms starting July 8.
Additionally, Tinder has also announced the return of its Single Summer Series after seeing massive success last year.
Together with Smorgasburg and Chaotic Singles Party, the event series will have pop ups in Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Austin, and Nashville. Users in participating territories will get in-app invitations to the events throughout the summer.
