Citroën unveiled a new cinematic campaign for its ë-C4, playing around with the classic alien-meets-human sci-fi trope.
Made together with agency BETC Paris, the campaign is marked by a short hero film that sees a young woman aiding a stranded alien in escaping government forces, with a surprising turn that shifts the narrative from heartfelt camaraderie to hilarious betrayal.
The campaign, with a soundtrack composed by a protégé of Hans Zimmer, combines suspense and wonder to tout the car model in a unique and unexpected way.
The alien’s language and the surrounding soundscape were crafted by Wave Studios, who contributed to the success of "The Zone of Interest."

Meanwhile, Mike the lovable alien was created by Artem SFX, who used practical effects to make the character both otherworldly and endearingly cute.
In a statement, Citroën CMO Federico Goyret shared why the brand chose such a unique approach not often seen in car commercials:
"We wanted to play with classic sci-fi tropes as much as the audience's emotions. You watch this wonderful relationship develop, see them working together to reach the mothership, and just when you think you know where the story is going — our adorable alien pulls off the ultimate betrayal, choosing the comfort of the ë-C4 over their trusted human friend."
"We're creating a universe around this story. Though we should mention that we don't actually condone grand theft auto – even by extra-terrestrial beings with irresistible puppy-dog eyes."
Citroën's latest film marks a departure from traditional automotive ads, taking brand storytelling to the next level by showcasing pure entertainment instead of focusing on high-tech features.
As BETC Paris Creative Director Nicholas Bakshi points out, the alien's fascination with the car isn't just about showcasing features, but also about "bringing joy and surprise back to automotive storytelling."
In addition to its TV and digital formats, the campaign will extend across social media, where Mike will continue his adventures, promoting the ë-C4 and having fun with his newfound human friends.
An Unexpected Betrayal
Directed by Gary Freedman, the ad opens with a tense atmosphere as a young woman helping her new alien friend board a Citroën ë-C4.
Military helicopters hover over the forest, chasing the two as they try to outrun the authorities.
Despite the chaos, the two remain calm, sharing a moment of connection.
Just when it seems they are about to reach the alien’s mothership, the unexpected happens.

The alien, who has grown fond of the ë-C4, surprises everyone by offering the woman to its mothership and deciding to stay in the vehicle instead of joining his fellow extraterrestrials.
The film ends with a close-up of the woman’s shocked expression, as the alien, now safely in the car, drives off while blasting music on the ë-C4's speakers.
"Maybe the most comfortable car in the universe," the screen writes, as the spot ends.
Previously, Ford and Wieden+Kennedy London revived the iconic Capri in a new series of ads.
