PLANTERS is marking America’s 250th anniversary with two limited-time peanut flavors sold exclusively at Walmart this summer.

The launch includes Ranch and Sweet Cayenne BBQ, with each Seasoned Peanut flavor coming in Americana-inspired packaging.

The release also lands during a milestone year for PLANTERS.

The Hormel Foods brand turns 130 this year, while its mascot, Mr. Peanut, recently marked his 110th birthday.

PLANTERS Director of Marketing Patrick Horbas said in a press release that ranch and barbecue are two of the most "unmistakably American flavor profiles."

"We wanted to bring them together in a way only the PLANTERS brand can, through bold seasoning and serious crunch," Horbas said.

Containing 7 grams of protein per serving, the new flavors are both available now in Walmart stores nationwide and online, while supplies last.

A limited run doubles as low-risk product innovation. PLANTERS gets to see which flavors sell hard enough to earn a permanent spot on shelves.

Trend Data Picked the Flavors

The launch connects America’s 250th anniversary to flavors already familiar in U.S. snacking.

Ranch gives PLANTERS a classic flavor base, while Sweet Cayenne BBQ adds the sweet-heat profile showing up across sauces, menus, and snacks.

The release cites Datassential’s 2025-26 menu trends, which show ranch remains one of foodservice’s most widely used flavor profiles.

The brand also points to Technomic’s 2026 Flavor Forecast, which found that nearly half of consumers are interested in "swicy" profiles.

The two flavors split this demand.

Ranch covers the classic American taste, while Sweet Cayenne BBQ delivers the "swicy" flavor the forecast flagged.

Meanwhile, the limited-edition Americana packaging carries the occasion on Walmart shelves.

Strong packaging design buys the brand one purchase, so the recipe inside has to do the work of converting this into a snacking habit.

Walmart Gives the Launch a Sales Path

The Walmart exclusive puts PLANTERS in front of more than 190 million monthly shoppers in the U.S., about 2.5 times the reach of Dollar General.

The company's grocery penetration hit a record 72% in early 2026.

Financial insecurity drives this growth, which rose to 70% among Americans ages 18 to 54 who are hunting for affordable groceries.

At $3.48 a can, the new flavors are an easy add for value-conscious shoppers watching their basket total.

The price also makes them a low-stakes grab for buyers with more room to spend.

Both buyer types put the same low-cost product in motion fast, which is exactly what a limited run needs during its short selling window.

PLANTERS’ America’s 250th launch offers three useful takeaways:

  • Make the occasion product-led. A national anniversary lands faster when shoppers can buy and taste it.
  • Use flavor as shorthand. Ranch and sweet heat give patriotic packaging a stronger reason to be in the snack aisle.
  • Let retail sharpen the story. A Walmart exclusive creates one clear destination and a limited-time reason to act.

The move gives PLANTERS a clearer shelf role before more anniversary products start competing for the same patriotic cues.

Our Take: Can Flavor Outlast the Patriotic Packaging?

America’s 250th gives CPG brands an easy calendar hook, but easy hooks get crowded fast.

By July, red, white, blue, heritage language, and limited-edition cans will likely be everywhere, and this makes shelf speed the real issue.

PLANTERS needs shoppers to understand the product in seconds, pick it up during a routine Walmart trip, and come back because they simply want more.

The packaging can win the first glance, but the flavors have to earn the second purchase.

This is where Ranch and Sweet Cayenne BBQ make sense.

They're not strange enough to scare off mainstream shoppers, but they give the anniversary more flavor than a commemorative label alone.
